The Port of Baltimore is critical to our nation's economy. In Maryland's economy, the Port of Baltimore generates nearly $3.3 billion in total personal income and supports 15,330 direct jobs and 139,180 jobs connected to Port work. In 2023, the Port ranked first in the nation in handling automobiles, light trucks, farm and construction machinery, as well as imported sugar and gypsum. The Port ranked second in the country for exporting coal. In 2022, the Port ranked sixth for importing coffee, 119,000 tons worth $609 million. Join us at the Pan African City Expo to hear Maryland Port Administration Executive Director Jonathan Daniels talk about the future of the Port of Baltimore and its relationship to the Port of Durban, with the second largest shipping container business in the entire continent of Africa. Maryland has an agreement with the Province of KwaZulu Natal, home of the Port of Durban. As the US is South Africa's largest trading partner, the Post of Baltimore is a critical part of maintaining that that strong relationship.
