Onestone Holdings INC has announced the successful production of #greenhydrogen on a #ship equipped with innovative #vertical #wind #turbines. This groundbreaking achievement represents a major leap forward in harnessing #renewable #energy sources at sea to create clean #fuel, according to the company.   Onestone Holdings’ approach utilizes ships equipped with vertical-axis wind turbines. These ships leverage satellite data to navigate to areas with optimal wind resources, maximizing #electricity generation. The captured wind energy is then directly converted into liquid green hydrogen onboard, eliminating the need for complex and energy-intensive onshore infrastructure. This onboard production not only streamlines the supply chain but also minimizes energy losses, ensuring a highly efficient green hydrogen production process.

There is still a future in the Fortescue group for green energy with the company spruiking its hydrogen and electrolyser interests less than a week after the company appeared to backpedal on the technologies. A week ago Fortescue reorganised its businesses, retaining a CEO for its energy and metals businesses, but combing management teams across the business. Following the successful spin-off and listing of our former Fueling division as Cavendish Hydrogen in June 2024, Nel once again became a dedicated electrolyser company, solely focusing on making reliable and energy-efficient electrolysers, a key enabler of the renewable energy transition. “This is a natural consequence of our business strategy, which is to spend all our resources on what we do best: making the most energy-efficient and reliable electrolysers in the world,” says Nel’s President and CEO, Håkon Volldal. “With this strategic move we are also taking a large step towards profitability,” Volldal says. Another significant event in the second quarter was the signing of the Technology Licensing Agreement with India’s largest privately owned company, Reliance Industries. With this agreement Reliance is allowed to manufacture Nel’s atmospheric alkaline electrolysers for captive purposes globally and non-captive purposes in India. Reliance and Nel will also collaborate on future performance improvements and cost optimization through R&D, value engineering, standardization, and modularization. Hydrogen has huge potential as a sustainable fuel, but 99% of our supply comes from hydrocarbons. For all this exciting new hydrogen tech to make a difference we need to get clean hydrogen moving faster, so it's great to see that Shell and Linde Engineering are going to build a new clean plant. REFHYNE II will produce up to 44,000kg per day of renewable hydrogen.
