We recently visited the beautiful city of Dresden, where the Concept + Modul GmbH showcased apartments at various construction stages. The rapid assembly time of these buildings captivated visitors, highlighting the benefits of reduced noise and minimal road closures, which were highly appreciated by both residents and landlords. One standout project was the Boardinghouse "Smartliving Dresden". This impressive construction features two interconnected residential buildings constructed using modular and element methods. The project spans a 1,000 sqm plot with 770 sqm of living space, comprising 22 premium apartments, each 35 sqm. Remarkably, the entire project was completed in less than six months. The development incorporates MAGNUMBOARD® OSB for stairs and balconies, solid wood modules for kitchens and bathrooms, and premium fittings such as parquet flooring. The apartments were built to the sustainable and eco-friendly KfW 40 EE standard. The energy-efficient design includes an integrated photovoltaic system, enhancing both sustainability and cost-effectiveness. Intelligent design and furnishing concepts further ensure a high quality of living, secure and sustainable rental potential, and healthy living conditions. We had the pleasure of collaborating with KOKO architects on the renovation of The Stockholm Square in the old town of Narva. The goal of the project was to develop the town hall quarter and revitalize Narva’s old town. For the project we designed and produced illuminated furniture functioning as a bench as well as a lighting named Pebble. The inspiration was drawn from the naturally occurring smooth-surfaced pebbles, which are perfectly shaped for stone skipping. Pebble is produced in rotational molding technology of weather and UV-resistant PE (polyethylene). The material does not corrode and does not become brittle in the sun or cold. Polyethylene also does not react to most chemicals, allowing various cleaning agents to be used for cleaning the products. As you can see, you can see.....the latest hot stuff! I took the photo a few weeks ago and just have to share my thoughts now. Terrazzo – a floor covering typical of functional buildings in post-war Germany. At first glance, nothing special, and I bet that most people here have used such stairwells every day for decades without even thinking about it. And since the building we turned into Kalle Neukölln was inaugurated as a department store in 1970, we have four of these staircases. Traditional terrazzo tiles are made from a mixture of colored cement and colored stones, without the use of any resins or other plastics. This mixture is pressed and then sanded to achieve the characteristic surface appearance. Terrazzo has been trendy in new buildings since the early 2020s and is, incidentally, also a very expensive building material. For us at Kalle Neukölln, these staircases are a special gift. Not only is Terrazzo almost indestructible, but once it's been polished, it's going to look really cool. Another decisive advantage for us is that the width of the steps provides us with great escape routes for almost 2,000 people at the same time. And that, in turn, was a crucial criterion for designing the Rooftop so elaborately, with its unique 360-degree view over Berlin. When I walk up or down these stairs I often think - it's the same in real life: what initially looks like nothing special turns out to be a real treasure and the key to completely new possibilities. Built with Kiwi Newton’s innovative Kiwi CarPark System, this 174,149-square-foot structure offers 640 parking spaces while showcasing the efficiency and precision of modular and prefabricated construction. Its zig-zag aluminum panel façades and dynamic colored lighting, designed by award-winning architect Peter Blitstein, make it a standout feature in Kitchener’s urban landscape.
