Pastoralism, a form of livestock management practiced by millions worldwide, especially in arid and semi-arid regions, faces unique challenges in the context of climate change. Integrating pastoralism into climate justice is not just an environmental imperative but a moral and economic one. Climate justice demands that we address the disproportionate impact of climate change on vulnerable communities, including pastoralists who are often marginalized and lack access to resources and support. By recognizing the unique challenges faced by pastoralists and actively including them in climate adaptation and mitigation strategies, we can ensure that pastoralist communities are not left behind. 🌍 New Good Practice Guidelines: Recognising territories and areas conserved by Indigenous peoples and local communities overlapped by protected areas🌍 Just in time for COP16 in Cali, the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) has released a new publication in the good practice guidelines series, crafted in close consultation with the Indigenous and Community Conserved Areas (ICCA) Consortium. This publication provides guidance for recognizing, respecting, and supporting ICCAs as conserved territories, OECMs, and protected areas, even when overlapping with official protected zones. Check out the publication to explore best practices for inclusive conservation. We have published the 2023 season provisional Scottish salmon and sea trout fishery statistics, which show total catch has decreased compared to 2022: https://bit.ly/3T0fXa4   We take the issue of our declining salmon stocks very seriously, and work to protect this iconic species is part of our commitment to tackle the twin challenges of biodiversity loss and climate change.   This includes providing over £4m in funding since 2021 to support protection and monitoring efforts.   In collaboration with partners, the Scottish Government will safeguard wild salmon through the Wild Salmon Strategy Implementation Plan actions: https://bit.ly/4bPwUwq   A progress report for the plan will be published shortly.   #MarineConservation #MarineStatistics #WildSalmon #Biodiversity
