It’s never too late to reinvent yourself. How do you market a story that’s been told and retold? You make it contemporary but play on the nostalgia (strong roots) it holds. Most businesses already have a story but are oftentimes scared to try anything new in case they lose what they’ve already established. This type of thinking shows a lack of confidence in what you have to offer. Your focus should be on making your clients/customers feel so aligned to what you have to offer that they don’t look elsewhere. They should want to come along for the ride to see new sites but also enjoy the nostalgia of being the first ones on the bus. You should be the one introducing them to new ideas and ways of doing things while still making them feel secure and comfortable. There are many Glindas in the business world, shiny branding that’s nice to look at. But it’s the substance underneath the glitz and glamour that truly matters. Be an Elphaba. Be innovative, continuously reinvent yourself but make sure your roots are strong. Because at the end of the day, your customers/clients will see the hero that you are.

The next TRU Community Gathering on Zoom: DO ALL THESE MUSICALS BELONG ON BROADWAY? Friday 6/28/24, at 5:00pm ET In the room: FRANKIE DAILY, new works director of NAMT (National Association for Musical Theater); and PETER FILICHIA, former New York-based theater critic for The Star-Ledger, writer and historian of the American musical theater. In 2023-24 season 15 new musicals opened on Broadway, the highest number since the 2016-17 season. Assumptions about what constitutes a Broadway musical have changed over the decades and the financial challenges of off-Broadway have lured some smaller shows into the commercial spotlight. Nevertheless, some musicals have found a level of success without the Broadway stamp of approval. Are there realistic criteria for success other than being a Broadway blockbuster?
