Europe’s bid to compete with the United States and China to stay at the cutting edge of artificial research have got a boost from AI founder Peter Sarlin, and the Finnish government. The Silo AI cofounder sold his startup to American chip giant AMD for $665 million in July and now has set up a foundation to fund up to 15 AI researchers across Europe. The initial grant from Sarlin’s Foundation PS was worth over $10 million and is linked with the Finnish government carving out a $10 million annual budget for a new AI research lab.

PERFECTO, SI TU INICIATIVA ES CREAR UN DESARROLLO A LARGO PLAZO DE LA IA, INCLUYE TAMBIÉN COMO ESE DESARROLLO CONTRIBUYE AL CAMBIO CLIMÁTICO O AL TRATAMIENTO DEL PLÁSTICO. CONSIDERANDO QUE EUROPA LO ESTA SOLICITANDO.

Interesting article. I think still big picture is missing from this article. This is reminded me of now deleted talk of Erick Schmidt recently to Sandford class. The kind of discussion they were having should be worrisome. Especially for policy makers like Anu Talus and EDPB. There Big Tech is going around the world, making deals, bringing 200 Billion USD on table to spend, and on other hand individuals like Peter Sarlin is trying to do something with his 10 million USD. We are no way closer to big tech. The only way for this big tech vs academia narrative to be balances by bringing more and more people on the table for discussion. Provide neutral platform for younger generations to grow and experiment in safe manner. We all need that. In my construct, we have a global agency, which provide a regulated data platform (data center, data privacy, legal protection etc.) to all students, academia, startups to ethically develop there technology. The only way agencies will have any leverage during the discussion on big table, is by having more of us, more of users, more of data on right side of the table. I wish nothing the best to new European Commission. Finland is making a wave there, and we hope to learn from you.

I absolutely love Silo Ai—their positioning, political mandate, and technical offerings are outstanding. I’m excited to see how Peter drives research acceleration forward. Europe needs a DARPA this has been obvious for some decades. I am glad to see Peter doing something about this.

Hope something similar happens in Poland
