🌍 Why 26 Food Giants Are Betting on Regenerative Agriculture and Biodiversity 🌱 A huge thank you to Koen van Seijen for his incredible work through Investing in Regenerative Agriculture and Food, showing how this is the future of farming! 🙌💚 A fascinating conversation with Stefania Avanzini, Director of OP2B, on how a coalition of major food companies, with a combined turnover of $900 billion, is driving transformative change. With $3.6 billion invested and over 300,000 farmers engaged in regenerative practices, these corporations are embracing biodiversity and climate action. 🌾🌿 🎧 Listen to the full conversation on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or YouTube! #RegenerativeAgriculture #Sustainability #Biodiversity #FoodSystems #ClimateAction
💡 How does a coalition with companies with a total turnover of over 900 billion dollars work on changing the #foodsystem? These are the whales of the food system, not the small fishes, and with all their issues and challenges, they are fundamental to the future of our food system. These companies feel the pain now (finally) from climate weirding in their supply chains and 26 of them joined forces in OP2B, lead by Stefania Avanzini. Yes, we need to work hard to create alternative vertically integrated farmed owned food companies and yes, we need to work really hard as well to transform the current giants. Whether we like it or not a lot of the food we buy in the supermarkets comes from these companies. https://lnkd.in/dSQ_ry5N

Couple days ago we have celebrated 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗗𝗮𝘆. Globally, food waste is a significant issue. According to "𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗘𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗲" report issued by the United Nations Environment Programme, in 2022, approximately 𝟭.𝟬𝟱 𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲. The majority of this waste (about 60%) came from households, with 28% from food service operations and 12% from retail sectors. At CrossCheckAI, at first we aim to help with reduction of food waste coming from 𝗛𝗼𝗥𝗲𝗖𝗮 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆. Our flagship product, CrossCheckAI, leverages data analysis to forecast food production, optimize preparation process, reduce food waste, and enhance food safety. We are currently working on the 𝗔𝗜-𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹, which is aimed to help with accurate sales predictions, to determine the amount of product to be produced in specified time slots. Stay tuned - more information coming soon! #crosscheckai #ccai #foodwaste #startup #foodtech

Listen to the Investing in Regenerative Agriculte and Food Podcast: Koen van Seijen in conversation with OP2B director Stefania Avanzini. Why and how 26 giants in agriculture value chains are getting serious about regeneration and biodiversity: https://lnkd.in/ePsFfzNV The companies in the OP2B coalition have invested $3.6 Billion in the past five years. and enolled 300,000 in Programs accelerating transition to Regenerative agriculture. Yet, the potential for transformation remains largely untapped, with a funding gap of more than US $300 billion annually. Greater transparency across value chains, consistency in mandatory and voluntary disclosure requirements and cost-effective monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) will unlock the investments needed for a large-scale transition. By committing to regenerative agriculture, businesses can lead the way in cultivating a resilient net-zero agricultural system while benefiting biodiversity, economy and rural communities worldwide.

Drumroll please... We’re featured once more among the global Food Tech 500, climbing all the way to spot 31 of the list from spot 227 last year! 🥳 Whilst we bathe in the glory of this recognition, let’s also take a moment to reflect on what we’re trying to achieve. Together, AgriFoodTech businesses at the intersection of food, technology, and sustainability are working to revolutionize the food system. At The Seaweed Company, we’re aiming to tackle a number of the challenges highlighted by Forward Fooding: 🚜 40% of land degraded globally 🏭 1/3 of global GHG emissions come from the food industry 💧 70% of the world’s freshwater is used in agriculture Thank you to the other companies advocating alongside us for a more sustainable food chain – here's a special mention to some of the other pioneers on the list PeelPioneers, FUL Foods , Willicroft, and NoPalm Ingredients. Onward! #FoodTech500 #Sustainability #Innovation #Seaweed

🌍 Investing In Our Plate Panel Takeaways: What if the future of food is already here and we just need to adopt it? Full house Tuesday night at Institut français du Royaume-Uni where we gathered thought leaders across food, finance, and agriculture to explore how we can transform our #FoodSystems. Replay here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/evJWQfr3 Some of the brilliant insights shared by our expert panel: 🔬 "Volume isn't the answer." – Katherine Nathan of RATCHET kicked off with a critical observation: creating more food doesn’t mean creating healthier populations. The key is understanding where our food comes from and how it impacts our planet. 🌱 "Healthy soil equals healthy people." – Antony Yousefian of The First Thirty emphasised that the connection between soil health and human health is undeniable. The science is clear: when we regenerate our soil, we get better yields, better nutrition, and ultimately, better human health. And the technology to do this exists today—we just need to scale it. 🚜 "Regenerative farming is about more than practices." – Liz Genever emphasised the importance of holistic farm management, including biodiversity, soil health, water quality, and community engagement. She discussed the challenges farmers face in transitioning to regenerative practices and the need for tailored support and regional solutions. 💰 "Financing the transition is key." – Charlotte Ward of Unilever highlighted the role of large corporations in driving sustainable change through investment and collaboration across the supply chain, starting with farmers. She also stressed the importance of consumer communication to drive demand for sustainably produced products. 👨🍳 "Technology for the food industry is here—but underutilised." – Benoit J. of Company of Cooks shared the challenges chefs face with disrupted supply chains and called for more live, tech-enabled connections to track ingredient availability and reduce waste. Camelia Ram of EDHEC Business School's Foresight, Innovation and Transformation Chair, gave us a glimpse into future scenarios for wellbeing and nutrition in 2034 and the Chair's upcoming event: https://lnkd.in/edxTubZB 💬 Are we ready to adopt the solutions that already exist? A huge thank you to our speakers and attendees for making this event a success! "Make an Impact for Good" is EDHEC Alumni UK’s #sustainability programme created by Estelle Levacher and supported by the French Embassy in the United Kingdom.
