It's as if people don't realize that we all need to communicate with each other, regardless of hearing health. That "my side" or "your side" of our conversations might require assistive technology is perfectly OK and normal! The facts: Eye glasses work really well from the moment you put them on AND in any setting with the same amount of light that anyone without eye glasses would require to see clearly. Hearing aids do NOT work as well as eye glasses do. Patience is key. You may need to re-train the part of your brain that processes audio signals. And, based on environment, you may need to tweak the settings for your hearing aid(s) fairly often, on a daily basis. If you're lucky, you'll be able to connect directly with the sound system in public venues or pick up sound from a well-placed microphone. There are a few ways to make it all work really well, in any setting, and technology keeps improving our options. Stay tuned in :) #hearingloss #hearingaids #tinnitus #cochlearimplants #assistivetechnology #hearingloop #Bluetooth #FM #inclusivity #microphone #hearinghealth #communications #informedconsent #vision

🔊 What is the Safe Noise Exposure Level to Prevent Noise-Induced Hearing Loss? 🔊 Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) is a growing concern in our noisy world. Dr. Daniel Fink's recent publication in Nature sheds light on the importance of adhering to safe noise exposure levels. 📈 Key Highlights: - Age-Related Hearing Loss is largely due to noise damage, not normal physiological aging - Implications for Impulse Noise: Temporary auditory discomfort or tinnitus suggests that the safe exposure level for impulse noise should also be around 55 dB - Exposure to noise levels above 85 dB increases the risk of hearing loss significantly. - Safe noise exposure levels to prevent NIHL is 55–60 dB time-weighted average for a day, much lower than current recommendations. 🔗 Link to the full publication: https://lnkd.in/d5Dc-uiX Stay informed and protect your hearing! #HearingHealth #NIHL #SafeNoiseLevels #CILcare #HealthSafety #PreventHearingLoss #Research

For today's “Did You Know,” we explore the effects of noise-induced hearing loss. According to the NIDCD, sounds at or below 70 A-weighted decibels (dBA), even after long exposure, are unlikely to cause hearing loss. However, prolonged or repeated exposure to sounds at or above 85 dBA can cause hearing loss.
