After transfering my Chief Pilot duties to my successor, new challenges and commitments quickly came along. Amongst those, I recently completed my A350-conversion. What a marvelous bird! Trainingwise, I started from base aircraft A330 and followed the A330 to A320 CCQ (incl. base training) several years ago, and I recently performed the A330 to A350 CTR (including consolidation flights). Thanks to Flight Deck Support for making this possible! Actually flying (ao) the A320, A330 ànd A350 in various contexts, I am fortunate to experience first hand that flying multiple aircraft following Airbus’ course directives, works well. Great way of optimizing crew training time and cost without ‘shortcutting’ in between aircraft types/variants. Like always, sufficient relative exposure remains key, yet compliments to the Airbus team are in order! For KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, adding the A350 to the A330 (and the A320 as of next week), will be a new step forward ini reducing noise and emission, improving fuel economy and passenger comfort, with the option of optimized flight crew transition cost. It underlines KLM’s continuous drive to further improve aviation sustainability. And for our pilots, a new option to fly SFF/MFF (Single Fleet/Mixed Fleet) might emerge! Besides my position as tech (pool) pilot and examiner, I continue as KLM’s stakeholder for the research flight test team for the Flying V in association with the TU Delft | Aerospace Engineering faculty (ao). From time to time, I also preside KLM’s Pilot Hiring Board as part of a wonderful and dedicated team of HR and Flight Ops professionals! It’s a great pleasure to meet so many possible future colleagues and learn about their motivation why they want to join us at KLM or, for cadets, why they want to become a pilot! Outside KLM and the Belgian AF reserve, I joined the SAE International S7 committee (Flight Deck & Handling Qualities Standards for large transport aircraft). And recently, I was honoured to become a Fellow at the Royal Aeronautical Society. Both organizations have earned their marks in the engineering and aviation history. Yet, more importantly: they are fully engaged towards the future of our business. Talking design, UI-aspects, SPO, … A lot is ongoing in aviation and as a pilot community, we try to describe/motivate/ascertain the future ‘user’ aspects of aviation for our colleagues (-to come). With nearly 35 years in aviation, I never ‘went to work’. I hope this may remain for many years to come!

A V I A T I O N ✈️ . . Something that brings joy to my heart and a wide smile to my face. Every day I hear an aircraft pass by, and I can’t help but feel like a small child, looking up at her dreams with wonder and awe. Aviation has always taught me that not everything beautiful comes easily; we must strive, work hard, and sometimes sacrifice to reach what we love. "𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐤𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰". Being in aviation these past few years has made me realize that the sky isn't just a place we reach, it’s a reflection of the endless possibilities within us. It’s a world where precision, passion, and persistence come together, and where every passing day is a reminder that we can rise higher.
