This clear eyed assessment of the amount of energy that must be procured to address industry and social needs, the need for clean energy, and the impact on the climate, is a must read. The most cost effective and reliable way to meet that need is by building out the transmission backbone. #Americaneedsagrid Now more than ever. https://wapo.st/4fLqgZw

Change the Job-to-be-Done, and even your biggest opponents, can change their beliefs and behaviours 👇 "It’s not that politics don’t matter. But economics, which shape politics, can turn even the biggest climate change sceptic into a clean energy evangelist. This is exactly what has happened in Texas, where an unlikely coalition for clean energy has formed. Urban progressives in blue cities like Austin have been joined by rural west Texas conservatives who recognise that renewable energy is becoming a critical source of economic development for their communities". Old JTBD that alienates conservatives: Do it for the climate New JTBD that connects with conservatives : Use green energy as a source for economic development of the community
Red State, Green Energy. Wie had dat gedacht? Texas = America’s clean energy giant. ‘economics... can turn even the biggest climate change sceptic into a clean energy evangelist.’ https://lnkd.in/erbPjykR Financial Times

Out of hundreds of solutions to climate change I read on LinkedIn, this one stands out. Simple, little new science needed—just do it. Building a solar farm at a retiring coal power plant and connecting the farm to the existing interconnecting system to the grid. https://lnkd.in/gwNxd52X

Yesterday, Woodside Energy held an investor briefing on its Climate Transition Action Plan and 2023 Progress Report. It was an opportunity to further engage with investors on our approach to climate change and the energy transition. The session covered: - The future demand for our products in a lower carbon world - Potential pathways to achieve our net zero Scope 1 and 2 net equity emissions by 2050 aspiration - Our new Scope 3 emissions abatement target - How we assess our investments for a range of climate-related factors If you’d like to know more, follow the link below. https://shorturl.at/kmTY0 #energytransition #netzero #climate #decarbonisation #woodside

United Green Energy leads the charge to a carbon-neutral future by utilizing and selling carbon offsets. These offsets incentivize emissions reduction and removal projects, creating a market that drives climate action. https://ow.ly/oX3S50R71yo #SustainabilityLeaders

🎧🎙️CLIMATE NEWS WEEKLY! https://hubs.li/Q02y7slL0 This week on Climate News Weekly, we discuss developments in American climate policy, the biggest moves from industry, and recent data from Mauna Loa Observatory. New bipartisan rules will help accelerate clean energy projects onboarding to the grid. Here’s Dina Cappiello from Rocky Mountain Institute, on what this means: “We have had a very, very slow, sluggish build out of new power lines, which is a key hurdle that's been facing the US energy transition. And right now, the volume of clean energy projects waiting to get on the grid is at a record high, largely because we haven't had this mechanism of seeing ahead. And so the fact that they have now implemented this long-term planning is one of the most powerful ways, I think, that the federal government has to solve this kind of the gridlock, for lack of a better word, of getting more energy onto the grid, clean energy onto the grid. That's the problem it's solving.”

I know, I know... Another hot take on clean energy and the election. But hey, if I’m not going to jump on this bandwagon, who will? Someone’s gotta feed the algorithm, right? But I'm going to let Jeff St. John do the talking from Canary Media Inc. because he summed up nicely what I've been saying for months... the logic was even House Republicans worried about the rhetoric memorialized in a letter to the Speaker. “Prematurely repealing #energy tax credits, particularly those which were used to justify investments that already broke ground, would undermine private investments and stop development that is already ongoing,” 18 House Republicans wrote. “A full repeal would create a worst-case scenario where we would have spent billions of taxpayer dollars and received next to nothing in return.” The genius of the #inflationreductionact is that it benefits rural areas. The projects going up as a result of the investment tax credit and manufacturing facility incentives make economic sense and are creating jobs. Investment has been made by private companies based on the incentives, and I believe it would be a very bad look to peel them back just to make a philosophical point. Some longer term programs in the IRA, like hydrogen facilities and fusion research could take a hit, but I expect just nibbling around the edges if it comes to that. There are just too many economic benefits and jobs being created from the #renewableinfrastructure the bill is already spurring. See? That wasn’t so painful. Now let’s get back to the real work of building a sustainable future.

More #climatechange litigation: The small town of Carrboro, North Carolina is suing one of the country’s largest electric utilities, Duke Energy, over climate change. Carrboro alleges Duke knew about climate change for over 50 years but continued to operate coal and gas power plants that spewed greenhouse gases. The lawsuit also says Duke participated in campaigns to confuse the public about whether climate change was real to avoid stricter regulations. #emergingissues #insurance #underwriting #insuranceindustry #reinsurance https://lnkd.in/dj_Yy49U
