"The cost of climate action adds to the growing funding challenge that local authorities face. To be successful in our climate ambitions new financial innovation will be required to fund the scale of delivery we need to meet aspirations at both a local and national level... Identifying and understanding the costs of net zero initiatives is crucial for securing funding and investment. It helps attract private sector investment, allocate public funds wisely, and leverage financial incentives and subsidies." Yesterday, our Director Steve Turner attended the House of Lords for the launch of Unlock Net Zero's new report on the net zero challenge in cities. 3Ci has been working with cities and places for over three years, developing a programme of work to unlock net zero through: 💲 Innovative financing 📈 Scale and aggregation 🎓 Capacity and skills #UKInnovation #NetZero #ClimateAction

After two really interesting days at Innovation Zero there are a few big take aways that stand out for me. 💷 Firstly there is still a huge canyon between business' approach to decarbonisation and policy - the protests on the main stage were a signal of that but there is still way too much investment in short term, fast return climate damaging organisations. This was incredibly well articulated by the hugely impressive Clover Hogan. 💻 Secondly, data is king - we know this but the ability to make carbon measurement easy and accurate to enable data flow in common formats up and down value chains is essential to allow businesses to invest in and make better carbon reduction decisions. 🏗 Thirdly, we need to speed up. The build environment needs to calculate and measure carbon faster, more easily and in a format that can be easily used up and down the value chain. Yes it's complicated and yes there are inaccuracies but we need better ways to extract the carbon measurement data and use it effectively to make clear, measured carbon reduction decisions. I had a great time catching up with Malin Cunningham from Hattrick | B Corp™ certified and talking about our sustainability journey and how the The Carbon Literacy Project was one of our main catalysts for driving change. It was really interesting talking to Samuel Hunt and Amy Young at Mobilityways and the fantastic work they're doing with measuring, reducing and reporting commuting related scope 3 emissions. Also, thank you to Charlie Ellis who was with the Innovate UK stand who provided some great insight into funding routes and business strategy information for ViridiPath. 🌍 Most importantly of all as Smith Mordak from the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) very eloquently summed up at the end of her talk on the built environment stage - we must all do something to combat climate change. Whatever it is, don't wait for strategies or targets or initiatives - every individual must use their existing platform and make change happen now. #sustainability #decarbonisation #netzero #climatechange #climateemergency #scope3 #scope3emissions #data #carbonreduction #carbontracking #carbonreporting

🌍 We are pleased to support Reduce and Invest’s campaign for the Voluntary Carbon Market. 🌱 Carbon credits should be considered an essential component of a comprehensive corporate decarbonization strategy. While companies should prioritize reducing emissions as much as possible using the best available technologies, investing in carbon offsets for residual emissions can play a crucial role in achieving net-zero targets and driving substantial mitigation impact. 📉 Reduce: Corporates must reduce their emissions as fast and as far as possible. 🔀 Invest: For unavoidable residual emissions, businesses must use the carbon markets to invest in climate solutions. Together, let’s lead the way in reducing emissions and investing in a sustainable future. Join us in making a difference! 🌿 Learn more about the campaign here: https://lnkd.in/eKmmdJcD
