"You cannot beat this ground-level community engagement, creating positive cultural change to prevent violence against women and girls. Supporting campaigns like the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence allow organisations like the Fleet Street Quarter to amplify critical messages, raise awareness, and foster meaningful dialogue within communities." ✍ Fleet Street Quarter Safe and Secure Manager, Bethany Nash, writes on the BID's support for this year's campaign, bringing it to the Quarter, and working with partners to empower, educate and upskill local workers, managers and business owners. #fleetstreetquarter #cityoflondon #safety #security #vawg

For this year’s campaign, Respect Victoria and Safe and Equal are working together to support local community engagement. As part of this, the workshop was funded under Respect Victoria’s 16 Days of Activism grassroots initiative. Teaming up helps to achieve more than we ever could by ourselves. If you're trying to intervene in a situation, enlist the help of someone else. If you want your community to be a safer place, join up with others to raise awareness of violence and what can prevent it. If you're trying to make change on an industry, sector, or country level, partner with other organisations, like we are doing on Lead the Change Wales. Lead the Change is a partnership project funded by Llywodraeth Cymru / Welsh Government, project managed by Plan International, and delivered by Kindling Interventions in partnership with Beyond Equality. Read more or get involved: https://lnkd.in/enawV64M ✋ Gender-based violence has reached a crisis level. 16 Days of Activism is an international campaign to encourage all of us to work towards a world free from violence against women and girls. Preventing or addressing violence is important to nearly everyone. However, it can be difficult to know what to do, or how to act. This is where Kindling Interventions comes in. We empower people to skilfully respond to unacceptable behaviours, whether inappropriate jokes in the workplace or public sexual harassment. We usually do this via training and consultancy, but during 16 Days we’re posting some of our favourite tips and actions to LinkedIn. Please share them with your network if you find them helpful or important. Image description for accessibility: “Form partnerships” reads navy writing on a white background with a faint blue hand icon. The Lead the Change turquoise logo, Arwain y Newid in Welsh, is in a purple box. A navy band at the bottom of the image has turquoise text: “#16Days #NoExcuse Tips to help you prevent & address harmful behaviours”. To the right is a white Kindling logo with a flame icon.

Liberty Latin America and Flow are taking bold steps to advance gender equality in the workplace through very progressive and compassionate policies. And recently, I was fortunate to have a conversation with the staff at Flow Trinidad and Tobago about gender-based violence (GBV). We talked about: 1. The Root Cause of GBV - that GBV stems from societal norms that teach men to suppress emotions, equate dominance with strength, and fear vulnerability. This "emotional incarceration" creates cycles of harm that impact families, workplaces, and communities. 2. How important it is to unlearn harmful norms. GBV is not inevitable—it is learned and can be unlearned. To break these cycles, we must redefine masculinity in terms of love, empathy, and equality, and letting go of the will to dominate. 3. Healing begins with self-reflection, challenging harmful behaviors, and cultivating compassion. Together, we can build a world where men are free to feel, love is a strength, and violence no longer looms over us. "The men who dare to be vulnerable are the strongest because they have nothing to prove and everything to give." – bell hooks
As part of our Company’s pledge to actively engage in efforts to educate, prevent, protect and support against gender-based violence in the communities we serve, we hosted Kevin Liverpool, Atlantic Fellow for Social and Economic Equity and former Director of the Coalition Against Domestic Violence at our office earlier this week. Kevin hosted an insightful and open discussion with our employees to build awareness of GBV during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence. Launched by our parent company Liberty Latin America (LLA), we are one of the first companies to launch a global gender-based violence policy across Latin America and the Caribbean. A Policy that provides our employees with guidelines, resources and support through proactive measure that can be activated with the urgency required. #GenderEquality #NoToGenderBasedViolence #WeAreLLA #CWC #WeConnect #WeCare #WeCommit

Creating safe public spaces is vital for everyone, especially women. The reality is that many people still face harassment and violence while simply moving through their communities. This article sheds light on effective strategies that can make a tangible difference in protecting individuals and promoting inclusivity in our public areas. What can we do to foster change? Here are a few actionable steps: 1. Advocate for well-lit public spaces that create a sense of safety. 2. Join community discussions focused on urban design that prioritizes safety for all. 3. Support local initiatives that empower women and marginalized groups to have a voice in these conversations. By taking these steps, we contribute to a culture of respect and safety where everyone feels valued. Let’s come together to create spaces where everyone can thrive without fear! What are your experiences and tips for making public spaces safer? Share them below! https://lnkd.in/e9SMfumh

🤝Safeguarding Communities: Collaborating with EIDA to Tackle Domestic Abuse. In the private security industry, our responsibility extends beyond protecting physical spaces - we protect people, advocates of change, and are committed to creating safe environments for all. I had a fantastic meeting with Employers' Initiative on Domestic Abuse Head of membership & Engagement Ayesha Fordham, Wilson James Executive Director for Business Improvement Maya J. and a great friend of mine - Nicola Billingham, whose passion and leadership brought us all together to address one of society’s most pressing challenges: domestic abuse. This collaboration isn’t just about raising awareness, it’s about taking action. Together, we’re pledging to: 1️⃣ Train and empower our teams to recognise the signs of domestic abuse and respond with care and confidentiality. 2️⃣ Establish clear support pathways for employees impacted by domestic abuse, ensuring safety and access to critical resources. 3️⃣ Build safe workplaces where everyone feels secure - both physically and emotionally. 4️⃣ Lead by example across the private security sector, embedding a culture of zero tolerance for abuse. Our industry is uniquely positioned to lead the charge. From frontline security professionals to executive leaders, we have the tools, reach, and influence to create environments that are not only safe but also proactive in tackling abuse. But actions speak louder than words. This is not about promises - it’s about visible, measurable change. Together, we can be the industry that turns advocacy into impact and demonstrates what collective responsibility looks like. Let’s collaborate, innovate, and lead. The safety of our people - and the integrity of our industry - demands nothing less. Employers need to be ready to protect employees from sexual harassment under a new statutory obligation. From October 2024 the Worker Protection (Amendment of Equality Act 2010) Bill will strengthen existing protection for workers against sexual harassment. The new law will place a new duty on employers to take ‘reasonable steps’ to prevent sexual harassment. Bristol Women’s Voice offers training for businesses of any size and charities on “Identifying, tackling and preventing sexual harassment”. During these courses, attendees will learn what sexual harassment is, its impact, and what lies behind it and gain the tools to take a whole team and organisational approach to tackling and preventing it. Find out more here or email us on [email protected] for more information: https://lnkd.in/eJzZ3wPp #workplacetraining #preventsexualharrassment #workerprotection
