😲 Every 12 minutes in 2023, a report of tool theft was made to the police – a staggering 5% increase from the previous year. These alarming statistics from Direct Line business insurance highlight the urgent need to address this rising problem that severely impacts the livelihoods of hardworking tradespeople across the country. The numbers speak volumes: - 24,543 reports of theft from vehicles in 2023, a 14% spike from the year before, accounting for more than half (55%) of all tool thefts. - 83% of tradespeople lost business due to not having their tools after a theft, with an average loss of £1,836 worth of work. Despite tradespeople investing in additional security measures like locks, drill plates, trackers, and alarms, these thefts continue, driven by the significant financial rewards of reselling stolen tools. Join us in taking action by signing the petition to "Ban the sale of used power tools at car boot sales and markets." Replacing tools is not cheap, and we are calling for the government to tackle tool theft, preventing and protecting tradespeople by closing down opportunities for selling stolen goods. Protect the tools, protect the trades. Sign the petition today! https://lnkd.in/e4WjAszg

According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), 1.02M vehicles were stolen in 2023. That's roughly 2,795 per day, 116 per hour and 2 every minute!! As criminal enterprises become more and more technologically advanced, prevention is more difficult than ever. When preventative measures fail, and they will continue to fail, do you have anything in place to assist with vehicle location and recovery? Stolen vehicles that are not recovered are contributing to already skyrocketing insurance premiums, for dealerships and their consumers alike. Dealers, what are you doing to ensure you quickly recover stolen vehicles? If not doing anything, how many thefts will it take before actively recovering your assets makes sense, 10, 20, 50?? Perhaps exponentially more important, are you offering your customers a wireless vehicle location and recovery device? If not, why not? Theft labeling products, OEM onboard tech and other "trackers" are NOT active recovery solutions. If you are a dealer without a wireless theft recovery program in place, one that will actively engage authorities and enable them to recover your vehicles within hours, if not minutes, you absolutely should be! If you are also NOT making the same valuable tech available to your customers, you absolutely should be! We are EXPERTS in mitigating dealership risk and increasing dealership profitability. Let us work with you to develop a customized game plan!

Dishonesty, Disappearance, and Destruction insurance Dishonesty, Disappearance, and Destruction (DDD) insurance, is a type of insurance coverage for businesses against financial losses caused by employee dishonesty, disappearance of money or property belonging to the business with no evidence of theft, and destruction of damage of property by someone other than an employee. Employee dishonesty covers losses due to fraudulent acts of employees, such as embezzlement (stealing money from the business, often by manipulating financial records), forgery (creating fake documents, such as cheques or invoices, to steal money or goods), theft of money or property (employees stealing cash, inventory, equipment, or other company assets), and computer fraud (employees using computers to steal money or commit other crimes, such as data breaches). Disappearance of money or property belonging to the business covers losses due to the unexplained disappearance of money or property belonging to the business with no evidence of theft. This includes mysterious disappearance of cash (money going missing from a safe or cash register with no signs of forced entry), unexplained loss of inventory (inventory vanishing from a warehouse or store without any apparent explanation), and disappearance of valuable equipment (company properties like laptops or tools, going missing under mysterious circumstances). Destruction of damage of property covers losses caused by deliberate destruction or damage of property by someone other than an employee. This includes vandalism (malicious damage to property, such as graffiti or broken windows), riots or civil commotion (damage caused by riots, protests, or other forms of civil unrest), and forged cheques (even if a forged cheque is not cashed). DDD insurance is normally purchased by businesses of all sizes, but it can be particularly important for businesses that handle large amounts of cash or have valuable inventory or equipment.

I like Forbes' cover image for this article. The reflection in this context is our digital presence and who we are not only to our employers, financial institutions, and to our local or national governments. The reflection in the image is also who we are to criminals who otherwise want to illegally exploit our information for their own personal gain. After thirty years on the internet my digital presence became too broad for me to manage on my own. I did a factory reset on my laptop and on my phone. But it was time for me to fully enlist the help of a third party. I've had basic identity protection for many years however I did not use all the features I was entitled to under my plan. When I first signed up it was to me a somewhat fringe concept. I actually wanted people to know me and contact me because I needed and wanted connections, community, and employment. In the time since those early years, due to our numerous digital transactions and digital activity, identity protection has gone mainstream. Let's also remember (according to the Pew Research Center) ninety percent of Americans now own a smartphone, which is up from 35% in 2011. Today identity plans for our digital reflection are frequently combined with identity insurance for those who have already experienced identity theft. We are all now able to access these services not only as standalone products like the ubiquitously referenced Norton LifeLock but also through our credit card companies, our home or renter's insurance, and through the three credit bureaus. I now tell my friends to imagine their first experience on the internet as the start of a global ocean voyage, where they are the crew and captain. Their sailboat is their digital existence for however long or far they travel. If they aren't paying attention, or if they fall asleep at the helm, or if their digital sails aren't set right in the midst of a storm (like a data breach), the consequences might be extremely serious. Or they should at the very least be ready to bail out and get to safety if they have to delete their cloud accounts or lose other online conveniences during said crises. With that said, I think a lazy digital ship captain should stay anchored and close to shore, never being far from a life vest or a dinghy. I also tell my friends the identity recovery process is like their sailboat being pulled into dry dock. This is quite like the USS New Jersey which at this moment is docking at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. The Big J is still afloat because someone took care of it, someone knew how to steer it, and someone was sure it returned to port. So, if it wasn't clear to me before, it is now. No adult with a digital presence who interacts with the internet in any meaningful way should go without identity protection, however modest their protection plan is. So please be careful, please protect yourself, and stay well ahead of the storm.

What qualifies a long-standing client relationship? Five years? Ten? How about 26 years. This year marks an over quarter-century partnership with Virginia State Police 🎉 You’re probably wondering how we continue to keep things fresh. Truthfully, it’s nothing you haven’t heard before: 🔴 We have hard conversations. Working on the VSP’s insurance fraud and car theft initiatives, we’re up against two challenging crimes, car theft increasing each year and insurance fraud attempts totaling over $11 million. 🔴 We share the same goals. 9,248 stolen vehicles were recovered in 2023 and we saw a 23.9% decrease in fraudulent claims attempted in 2023 vs 2022. 🔴 We trust one another: to try a new tactic or tone, to make suggestions, and to give each assignment our all. 🔴 We spend quality time together. Any day our clients visit the office is a good day! Thanks, VSP, for being our partner in crime. (Sorry, had to say it.)

If a vehicle is stolen or obtained by #IdentityTheft, it cannot have valid #MotorInsurance. This means other road users are at risk, especially as such drivers are also more likely to speed or commit other driving offences, such as having no MOT to ensure the car is safe to be on the road. On top of this, the vehicles are often then sold on to innocent individuals, who lose considerable savings and have to deal with the stress and anxiety of finding out their new pride and joy, their link to freedom, was actually stolen from someone else. This may be identified when trying to insure the car, potentially leading to a #fraud investigation into themselves. They'll also experience huge financial losses when the vehicle is seized. A huge well done to Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB), Hertfordshire Constabulary and NaVCIS for #FightingFraud. It's clear that those willing to commit fraud have no hesitation in perpetrating other linked crimes, which lead innocent members of the public to be in danger; financially, emotionally and even physically. #IDTheft #InsuranceFraud #UninsuredVehicles Read more: https://lnkd.in/edmfxuJX
