Since reading about contextual inquiry in UX research, I've been looking for ways to merge observational and participatory research. A UX contextual inquiry explores contexts in which people use digital services and devices. A community-led survey can facilitate a study on 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿. Participants can then explore the spaces they live in while identifying elements that facilitate or hinder transitions. This can help in changing how the digital informs where we spend time and eliminate transitional barriers. Here is an example graphical representation of typical urban spaces and their respective transition zones — 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘐'𝘷𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘢 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘩𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘢 𝘭𝘰𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦 😏 #UX #transition #spaces #devices #technology #movement #mobility

As everyone here knows, I conduct daily research on UX. Recently, I stumbled upon something fascinating—the #POUR principles of accessibility: Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, and Robust. These principles caught my eye because they break down the complexity of accessibility into actionable steps, making inclusive design more attainable. Here's a quick rundown: Perceivable: Make content accessible in various ways, like adding captions to videos and supporting screen readers. Operable: Ensure interactive elements can be used with different tools, such as keyboards, and provide ways to correct mistakes. Understandable: Use clear language and intuitive design so users know what to expect. Robust: Ensure content works across different platforms, technologies, and devices, including assistive technologies. Accessibility might seem daunting, but taking it step-by-step makes it manageable. It’s about empathy and ensuring everyone has an equal digital experience. And remember, you’re doing amazing work towards inclusivity! I'd love to hear about your experiences with accessibility. Let’s discuss how we can create more inclusive digital spaces together... #Accessibility #InclusiveDesign #POURPrinciples #WCAG #UXDesign #DigitalInclusion

Happened on a post about #Designing for #NeuroDiversity and felt I needed to add a bit of clarity on the what & how. Designing for neurodiversity significantly impacts UX design by emphasizing the creation of #Inclusive digital experiences. It involves #Understanding and #Accommodating the diverse ways people process information, ensuring that digital products are accessible and usable for individuals with different neurological conditions, not just the mass population with inherent thought processes. This approach focusses on #Usability, #Accessibility, and overall user satisfaction, making digital environments more welcoming for everyone. We are a long way from inclusive spaces, as even organizations with Global reach do not acknowledge the #NeuroDiverse population, neither do they provide accessibility tools to support their digital access to information or products. Designing for #Neurodivergent audiences, should start with inclusive information architecture and content modeling, crafting your design systems for neurodiversity. #Neuroinclusion not #Neurodiverse should become the byword and be a part of your #DesignThinking process, your #Workflows and your digital products, with a focus on hidden obstacles that may impact your own products’ usability. This article should give you some insight into what the challenges are: https://lnkd.in/dM8Agx5e #GlobalAccessibilityAwarenessDay

♿ #Accessibility in #UX: Designing for Everyone, Preparing for #2025 🌍 _with the eggwhite With the #European #Accessibility Act (EAA) deadline approaching in 2025, accessibility is more than just a legal requirement—it's a #business imperative. Why is it important? - 🌐 Broadens Your #Audience: Around 135 million people in Europe live with a disability. What can you do to prepare? - 🔹 #Inclusive Design: Think about accessibility from day one—design with features like screen readers, keyboard access, and voice commands. - 🔹 WCAG Compliance: Follow Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) to meet #accessibility #standards. - 🔹 #RealUserTesting: Test with users who have disabilities to catch real-world barriers. - 🔹 Ongoing Updates: Accessibility is an #evolving #process. Keep optimizing and improving your designs to meet and exceed standards. Accessibility isn’t just compliance—it’s a #competitive edge that leads to better #user #experiences for all. 🚀 #UXDesign #Accessibility #EuropeanAccessibilityAct #InclusiveDesign #TheEggwhite

"You cannot design effectively for humans if you don’t understand how they work." Completed the 'Perception and Memory in HCI and UX' course by HCI Professor Alan Dix at Interaction Design Foundation (IxDF) The course dives into how understanding our senses is crucial for designing a great user experience, focusing primarily on sight, touch, and hearing. The information taught was truly an eye-opener in more ways than one! #UXDesign #HumanCenteredDesign #DesignThinking
