📣 Last month, the European Roundtable for Beef Sustainability (ERBS) hosted their annual event in Poznan, Poland where members and partners came together to collaborate and share knowledge to help drive positive sustainability progress in the European beef industry. Some key highlights from the event: 🎯 2 days of collaboration 🎯 57 attendees from 28 companies across 10 European countries 🎯 24 expert speakers covered a range of perspectives including farmer, science, financial, policy and business and 6 European Platforms presented on their successes, opportunities/challenges and future plans. 🎯 2 farm visits to OSI McDonald’s flagship farm and ABP trial farm 🎯 1 film premier of World Without Cows , a Planet of Plenty® production by Alltech 🎯 3 panel discussions focused on: - Progress on GHG also relies on making progress on nature topics such as biodiversity - Taking a whole value chain approach is the way to accelerate progress on GHG action - Reaction to the World Without Cows film   🤝 Throughout the event, 3 words were echoed “Communication. Motivation. Last week, I had the chance to attend the 2024 Economy for the Common Good International Conference. The number of brilliant projects and inspiring panelists gathered at this event was truly incredible! I almost ran out of ink while writing down ideas during the round table with Lebohang Liepollo Pheko, Kate Raworth, Christian Felber, Jason Nardi, and Paul Schenderling. The project Agricycling presented by the farmer Pieter van der Valk captivated me with concrete insights on how to make the Dutch agriculture system more sustainable but also fair for its workers. Moreover, it was great to hear about thoughtful educational programs, such as SPARK the Movement and PINE: Plataforma de Introducción a Nuevas Economías, that are already preparing the knowledge landscape for the inevitable global transition we need to face. I learned about the etymology of the word economy, which comes from the Greek ‘oikonomia’ – ‘oikos’ meaning house and ‘nemein’ management. As a society, we have lost touch with this original purpose and are letting the capitalistic “economy” destroy our home planet. However, capitalism is not a self-sustaining entity; we can all contribute to moving away from this obsolete model towards any of the nearly 30 alternative future-fit economic models that were mentioned during the conference (e.g. circular, degrowth, true pricing, ECG, economy of the commons, sovereign money, sufficiency, care).

Hi everybody! Yesterday, I had the honour of hosting a panel at this years CIC organized by CLIB - Cluster Industrielle Biotechnologie. The discussion was dealing with biomanufacturing. The big question the experts were discussing: how can we extend biomanufacturing Europe-wide? Ute Schick from Evonik, Mary McCarthy from Soffinova, Mariagiovanna Vetere from NatureWorks, Max Kroymann from BMWK and Juergen Eck (Ph.D.) from bio.IMPACT concluded: 1) we should go for public-private partnerships for funding the new plants. 2) We should be more self confident in Europe. Why? Because we are great in what we do! 3) let us harmonize regulations globally. 4) increase public acceptance, also with more innovative education. 5) finally we said: impact comes with scale!
