Boxing & combat are very popular on connected/digital fitness platforms, and somewhat surprisingly outpace engagement for other common fitness modalities. Members tend to find them highly engaging, playful, and competitive. At asensei we are seeing an increasing number of our customers deploying these modalities and fortunately for us we have a deep martial arts pedigree! The challenge & solution: 🥊 Combat techniques are hard to learn and can be fast paced: We leverage guided learning as core "coach" in our SDK that can break the combination into it's parts and guide me through it (first video) as I learn the combo. This model can go much deeper by actually guiding me through the nuanced movement of each technique. 🤜 Transitions: true combat techniques have a rhythm and flow which means there are movements between the movements. In the second video you will see I start throwing a technique while I am still transition from my previous technique. This movement recognition takes a highly configurable model designed around biomechanics and not machine learning trained on the ideal combat combos. We recently created a 10 technique combo for a customer in a few hours by leveraging all of the individual techniques and combos we already had built. 🚦 Speed: If you are good, your strike might be done in the blink of an eye. This speed of movement creates challenges for lower power hardware that might be taxed by all other app level requirements. ASENSEI can optimize our motion capture to target different hardware, increase frames per second, and handle obscure camera angles.
