Did you know that the construction industry is responsible for 1/3 of all material and energy use? The industry has developed a number of great new circular solutions, but now is the time to scale up. ➖ Projects that aim to implement circularity in the markets, are an important part of Natural State's portfolio. Recently, Natural State became the project manager of a new Nordic Circular Hotspot project, called Nordic Circular Construction, funded by Nordic Innovation. ➖ This is a re-trade programme for critical construction materials
and solutions, with the purpose to support companies in the Nordics with circular solutions in the construction sector, to realize their Nordic market potential. ➖ The project builds on the work done by the transition group for circular construction in Nordic Circular Hotspot. This group identified the upscaling of circular solutions as key to reach the tipping point, where circular solutions are the norm rather than the exception. ➖ The project is based on the assumption that its easier for companies to scale up in the Nordics, than in other parts of the world. This feeds into the Nordic goal of establishing the Nordic region as the most sustainable and integrated in the world, by 2030. Happy #EarthDay2024! Siena Construction is reflecting on our 2021 collaboration with MIT Sloan School of Management's S-Lab to integrate sustainable approaches on our building projects. Current construction and demolition “waste” management practices typically have a net negative ecological, social, and cultural impact. DID YOU KNOW? In Massachusetts alone, construction and demolition debris for 2019 was 2,298,586 tons; 1,549,325 tons were sent to landfills or combustion sites. Nationally, 600 million tons of industry-related debris were generated in 2018; 145 million tons were sent to landfills. Plastic use reduction, material selection, and local sourcing are just three simple ways builders can reduce carbon footprint. The best part of being non-technical? You get to ask basic questions that surprise technical minds but are key for effective communication. We just completed a 10-video series on Metabolic's page 🎥, focusing on circular construction solutions for cities. As the Production Manager, my role was to bring these stories to light. During scripting, two questions were key: "Who's our audience?" and "Why does this matter to them?" This approach helped the solution architects to consider the future impact of their work. This project demonstrated how video can simplify complex sustainability concepts, making them engaging but, most importantly, inspiring necessary action. Working with the solutionists was enjoyable, even when we had to reshoot scenes multiple times to ensure our message was clear. Interested in learning more about these solutions?
