🇦🇪 UAE Takes a Significant Step Towards Climate Neutrality 🌿 The UAE Cabinet has recently issued a resolution establishing a National Register for Carbon Credits. This crucial step aligns with the nation's commitment to achieving climate neutrality by 2050. Key Objectives of the Resolution: - Tracking and Documenting Carbon Reductions: The register will monitor and verify carbon emissions and reductions across various sectors. - Facilitating Carbon Credit Trading: A structured market for carbon credits will be established, enabling entities to offset their emissions. - Enhancing Transparency and Accountability: Clear guidelines and reporting standards will ensure transparency in emissions reporting and verification. The UAE's National Register for Carbon Credits will significantly impact businesses operating within the country. Entities with substantial carbon emissions will be obligated to register with the National Register and implement rigorous monitoring and verification systems. This will necessitate investments in advanced emissions management technologies and sustainable practices. Smaller entities, while not mandated, are encouraged to voluntarily participate in carbon credit trading. This not only enhances their sustainability profiles but also opens up new market opportunities. The establishment of a carbon trading platform will facilitate the buying and selling of carbon credits, providing a financial incentive for emissions reduction. By embracing these regulations, businesses in the UAE can contribute to the nation's climate goals and gain a competitive edge in the global market. #ALTÉRRA’s CEO had the pleasure of participating in a fireside chat with Anna Edwards during the Bloomberg Sustainable Finance Forum yesterday. We continued our critical conversation on financing the energy transition and #ALTÉRRA’s role in making it a reality. Here are some key takeaways: 1. There is a significant mismatch between available capital and viable climate projects, particularly in the Global South. Our mission at ALTÉRRA, the largest private fund focused purely on climate action, is to bridge this gap and unlock the necessary finance. 2. Traditional finance often overlooks high-growth opportunities in developing economies. Investing in EMDE decarbonization yields 30% more emissions reductions by 2035, yet these regions receive less than 15% of global clean energy investment. 3. ALTÉRRA’s unique scale, scope and structure, comprising a $5 billion transformation fund and a $25 billion acceleration fund, allows us to mobilize capital at scale towards transformative climate solutions and underserved markets in the Global South. 4. We are developing a world-class climate impact framework that will provide transparency and accountability in how our climate investments drive a step-change to deliver impact, additionality, and commerciality. 5. The UAE's dedication to sustainable development, rooted in our history and culture, underscores our commitment to being a global leader in climate action. Hosting COP28 last year and launching ALTÉRRA are testaments to this commitment. Looking ahead, ALTÉRRA aspires to be the leading climate finance vehicle globally and with our $30 billion, to mobilize $250 billion by 2030. We aim to inspire others to join us in this transformative journey, ensuring a sustainable and prosperous future for all. Thank you to #Bloomberg for hosting such an insightful forum today and to everyone who continues to support and collaborate with us on this vital mission. #SustainableFinance #ClimateAction #EnergyTransition #GlobalSouth #ClimateInvestment # ALTÉRRA #COP28 #Bloomberg #ClimateImpact
