Today's report into sustainability professionals is a must-read for anyone who works (or would like to work) in sustainability in NZ. The finding that jumps out for me is that communication is the no.1 skill needed for a career in sustainability. Effective communication means you can motivate and inspire. It helps people understand why it's important. It means you can avoid getting into hot water through greenwashing. It's how you can make change happen. It's why I do what I do! This has been a great initiative to work on, led by Sarah Holden at Oxygen Consulting. It's a collaboration together with the Sustainable Business Network, Sustainable Business Council NZ & Auckland University of Technology. Great to work with Sarah Holden, Kelly Flatz, Jack Kendall, Rachel Brown ONZM (She/Her), Tori Calver, Mike Burrell, Peter Skilling, Nicole Schlichting, Kate Barlow, Gerri Ward, Beck Lay, Marjolein Lips-Wiersma Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/dw69P3T #sustainability #communication

Sustainability grants can help you reshape your business strategy—here's why you should be taking advantage of them. Surrey’s new sustainability grants are a perfect example of how local support can make all the difference. These grants enable businesses to adopt eco-friendly practices, especially when upfront costs might feel like a barrier to entry. And it's not just Surrey... Similar grants are accessible to businesses across the UK. Local councils are increasingly offering funding to support sustainable transitions—making it easier to go green without the perceived financial headache. Here are a few reasons why you should explore local grants: 🌱 Funding makes the shift to sustainability more of an opportunity than a challenge. 🌱 Brands that commit to eco-friendly practices attract more environmentally conscious customers. 🌱 Savings from sustainable practices often far outweigh the initial costs—and grants can help ease those early expenses. Local councils are always introducing new incentives for small businesses to go green. Don’t let cost hold you back—the benefits of going green will always outweigh the risks of not adapting to the rapidly growing green market. This week's report into sustainability professionals is a must-read for anyone who works (or would like to work) in sustainability in NZ. It was great to see soft skills like relationship building, ability to influence, communication skills and leadership topping the list of key enablers for progression as a sustainability professional. As a generalist working in sustainability, I am always in awe of, but often intimidated by the experts. But this report proves the importance of having a ‘people -person’ like me on the team. Someone who can bring people together through collaboration, network and inspire others, share their passion and make it fun. I love having a job with purpose. Exciting news! We've collaborated with the Sustainable Business Council NZ and Kaitiaki Collective to develop a suite of step-by-step, plain English guides to support sustainability professionals. The first two guides are now available, covering sustainability strategy and the business case for sustainability. They're practical, ambitious, and feature plain English writing. Keep an eye out for more guides on a range of social and environmental topics. Here are the first two guides: https://lnkd.in/grhVCUSE While the guides are written for New Zealand businesses and feature some local content, Australian businesses will find most of this information useful and relevant. #sustainability #business #guides #plainEnglish #thinkstepanz Jay C. Sustainability is at the heart of our business processes, employee benefits, and product development. Why? Because it's more than just a buzzword—it's a strategy that helps us attract and retain top talent, foster innovation, increase profits, and reduce our carbon footprint. As our CMO, Marco Pimentel, says in his latest Sustainable Biz Canada article, "This kind of innovation is an opportunity to strengthen your business, do something completely new, and take advantage of a rapidly growing industry." #businessgrowth #sustainability #innovation #wearehiring #sustainablebusiness
