Happy to share a new paper written with Prof. Subash Sasidharan published in Foreign Trade Review. In this study we examine the implications of trade facilitation measures on GVC integration of firms. Using four key trade facilitation indicators and employing an instrumental variable approach, we find some key results including favorable heterogeneous effects for less productive firms. The benefits of trade digitalization are evident but its implementation may be challenging. Policy decisions require legal and technical action to allow the transition to cross-border paperless trade systems. The “Cross-border Paperless Trade Toolkit” aims at raising awareness of the technical and legal tools that may be used to make the transition. This toolkit aims at raising awareness of the technical and legal tools to be called upon to adopt cross-border paperless trade systems and national single windows (NSWs).
