The 5 Ds of Fintech Have you ever heard about this concept? In my opinion, it summarizes quite nicely the impact that fintechs brought into the world of finance. Democratization - fintechs are looking into all kinds of market segments, not just the most common and most accessible ones. They are not afraid of the challenge, as ultimately, they bring more accessibility to financial sector to the underrepresented social groups. Disaggregation - Fintechs are giving better and quicker access to information to individuals and institutions; they are improving the cost of transactions and overall reducing friction Disintermediation - in transactions and customer interactions, they are cutting out the middle man Decentralization - technology enabled business model is how the industry will be regulated, not just purely by one monopolising entity De-biasing - transparency is becoming the key to the market where there is a hazard of moral dilemmas and conflicts of interest. The article below is from 2016, but it is impressive how many of these principles we can observe even today in the fintech world. In Serbia, where I come from, we are still too far away from many of these principles. However, pioneers like Finspot Ognjen Kurtic might help us get there a bit faster.
