It will address the specific needs of HPC centers in emerging regions, ensuring African research institutions have access to the latest tools and innovations. Key themes of the HPC AI Forum include sustainability through energy-efficient computing, fair and ethical use of AI, innovation in AI and quantum technologies, and skill development and community building. Participants in the HPC AI Forum will have the unique opportunity to access cutting-edge resources, including satellite-based internet hardware, Intel AI PCs with advanced Neural Processing Units, AMD HPC infrastructure, and seamless integration with Microsoft Azure for scalable cloud computing. These resources are designed to empower participants with the tools they need to drive innovation in their respective fields. ✨The new Top500 list of the fastest supercomputers in the world was just released: LUMI is yet again the fastest supercomputer in Europe – globally LUMI positioned 5th. LUMI was ranked high on the new other lists as well. ✨ – LUMI is now listed on the Top500 list for the fifth time, and it is great to see LUMI’s prominent position once again. More important than list positions, however, are the tangible results already achieved with LUMI. Both academic and industrial users have been able to make use of LUMI’s computing power to make significant progress with, for example, large language models, digital twins and quantum technologies. In line with LUMI’s status as one of the most advanced platforms for AI in the world, more than half of LUMI’s capacity has been used for AI-related research and innovation, says Kimmo Koski, Managing Director of CSC - IT Center for Science, on behalf of the LUMI Consortium. – LUMI continues to stand tall as one of the EuroHPC’s flagship supercomputers, its position among the world’s most powerful computing systems once again confirmed by the Top500 list. Microsoft and Quantinuum have achieved a breakthrough in quantum computing. So, Quantum computing is an advanced area of study that uses the rules of quantum mechanics to perform calculations much faster than traditional computers. It has the potential to solve complex problems that regular computers can't handle. This breakthrough by Microsoft and Quantinuum addresses a critical issue in quantum computing - the occurrence of errors during computations. Their team conducted 14,000 experiments without encountering a single error. They achieved this by using Quantinuum's ion-trap hardware along with Microsoft's qubit-virtualization system. This breakthrough is important because it solves the problem of errors in quantum computing. It moves us past the limitations of noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) computers, which are affected by outside disturbances. This achievement is a big step forward in the field of quantum computing. Although quantum computing systems are currently expensive and undergoing significant changes in their architecture, the rapid advancements suggest that they will soon become more accessible and capable of performing tasks at unprecedented speeds.
