A good example, of simple common sense, that Belgium would be well advised to follow at least regarding the health data storage platform and the technical architecture supporting data exchange. Creating a true SAFE interoperable health data space is enough of a challenge without adding complexity where it could be removed.
In December 2023, the UK House of Lords Committee issued a report on integrating primary and community care. One of the committee's recommendations was to make one (or multiple) highly #interoperable data systems available to all community services through commercial negotiations made at a national level. The UK government, in its formal response to the recommendations, cited its work in this area, including the development of "a core information standard that applies to Connected Care Records, ensuring a common clinical vocabulary (#SNOMEDCT) to support safe, accurate and easy sharing of information, and the standardisation of records, improved access to information across multiple providers, and improved medicines safety." Some initial thoughts and welcoming some key observations by Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham OM KBE PC FRS: - I am pleased to see a light has been shined on the stark deficit on funding in primary care in comparison to secondary care, with a particular focus on how this contradicts the long term plan. - I am also welcoming the push to embrace multidisciplinary working, though some key specifics around the role of multiprofessionals within general practice and the need for more leadership within general practice of multiprofessionals as well as GP’s was lacking -It is great to see a recommendation to improve our digital integration and thinking around using digital tools to improve population health management. This is key to improving access and achieving cardiovascular renal and metabolic disease prevention goals More thoughts to follow once I digest a bit more of the report https://lnkd.in/eyzWmnNT

In Let's talk about the NHS #1, we explored the lack of a common language of health value. #2 looks at two reports (Wanless 2002 and Darzi, 2024) and asks what we can learn from two eminent thinkers. https://lnkd.in/et-cucp7

Meningitis Now's patron, Lord Darzi, has been asked by the Heath Secretary, the Rt. Hon. Wes Streeting MP, to review the performance of NHS England as a prelude to the creation of a new NHS Plan to be published in Spring 2025. Needless to say, this is a critical opportunity to look at the health and care system as a whole and to put patients (and their carers) at the heart of care. A chance to ensure that health is seen as an asset to society and to economy. A chance to see how #prevention and public health can be given the focus it deserves. To inform this review, Lord Darzi is seeking submissions of data, intelligence and analysis. The deadline for submissions is 9th August, using an online portal: https://lnkd.in/gUPtySk4. And you can read more in the short BMJ article referenced below. We'll make a submission from Meningitis Now. I encourage others to do likewise. #meningitis #nhs #healthandcare #prevention #publichealth Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham OM KBE PC FRS https://lnkd.in/gDYYHF_K

Deadline for submissions of evidence/analysis to Lord Darzi's review of #NHS performance in England is tomorrow - 9th August. We've just submitted ours from Meningitis Now. It focusses on: 1. Vaccination: system leadership and improving uptake 2. Timely diagnosis, treatment and management of disease 3. Improving follow-up and aftercare Don't miss this opportunity to shape the future of health and care in England (and perhaps beyond).

The Lord Darzi report published last week saw a significant number of reflections and summaries across the sector and mainstream media. Having taken the time to digest the comprehensive but compelling diagnosis, our Managing Partner, Sarah Pinto-Duschinsky shared her view of what it means for the NHS and how plans for reform must differ from those of the last 20 years to avoid making the mistakes of the past, centred around five key shifts: 1. We need to focus on whole of government delivery 2. We need a new default to community-based care 3. We need a new approach to innovation at pace and scale 4. We need a technology ready workforce 5. We need a regulatory regime which supports improvement This is a huge challenge but, with a new Government, there is a window for change. And the prize is surely worthwhile if we can get it right this time. To read the full article, click here: https://lnkd.in/eGV9s7V7

While rising demand and limited resources may point to a diminishing standard of care, Dr Vladimir Ljubicic, C2-Ai, highlights that high-quality care is both an ethical obligation and a practical necessity to alleviate strain on NHS services. "The UK currently has 2.8 million working-age residents who are economically inactive due to illness, a figure that has increased by around 40% in the past five years." The key to improving patient outcomes and ensuring the sustainability of the NHS is through better managing the provision of quality care and the complexities of risk prediction, argues Dr. Vladimir Ljubicic, director of business development at healthcare analytics specialist C2-Ai. 🚨🚨🚨Darzi review has been released. 🚨🚨🚨 It sets out the challenges facing the NHS in STARK terms. Interesting framing in that it’s not only challenges with investment, productivity and staff/capacty that matter; but also the role which individuals play in their own health. Talking about personal responsibility and the need for cross-Gov work to solve the determinants of health is v important; and this will be key to reform. Also important is the focus on tech as a driver of performance. It’s not just a ‘nice to have’ but will be a key part of the reform agenda. If this was the diagnosis, the treatment is going to have to be strong. Next up, party conferences, creation of the 10 year plan, and the development of the mission Boards. For now, this is a big old beast of a report, and we’ll be analysing it over the coming days - if you want a copy of our analysis, drop me a message. https://lnkd.in/eHPmcpdj
