Young people know that having a caring adult in their life is a huge source of security. That security is the foundation for all other good things: healthy behavior, pursuing goals, growth. This is why, when we work with justice-involved youth, we do all we can to be there for them and for any family they have who supports their efforts. When our youth work for a better future, they always do so with someone who cares. #OneHeartProject #caringadults #juvenilejustice https://lnkd.in/gF3T_UVu

Glad #QuietOnSet talks about a subject which feels #Unspeakable and #RaiseAwareness on #ChildVictims of #SexualAbuse but also #ChallengeTheSystem on bringing about #Change to better #ProtectChildren from people who have such great #influence on children's minds and behaviors. Here we see child actors in a situation where an authority figure crosses the line of conduct, often these authority figures are people the child completely trusts, exploring abuse of power and the psychological infiltration in child behavior. Kate Taylor, journalist, Business Insider states on s1e4 of Quiet On Set, "it's clear that the system needs to look at if it is doing enough to protect children." 💯 The system does need to review and ask itself: are we protecting adult rights more than child safety?

The recent hearing discussing the protection of children online made headlines, especially as executives from TikTok, X, Snap and Discord, as well as Mark Zuckerberg spoke about the issue. During the hearing, which lasted just under four hours, there were a series of tense exchanges as those involved discussed the actions that can be taken to keep children safe in the online world. However, even though there was a great deal of conversation surrounding the subject, there is no clear resolution in sight. Why is this such an issue? As technology continues to advance, the online sphere becomes even more developed, not only as a place to find information, but a place to hang out, spend time, and find new ways to interact with information. This means that there are continued opportunities for people of all ages to access a myriad of information without stringent policies to keep children safe -- think about how easy it is to access information today. Is all of that appropriate for children? Should a minor have access to an app without any parent consent? Who is responsible if a minor ends up in a chat room or message with a predator? All of these questions, and many more, are the subject of child safety in the online sector as lawmakers, corporations, victims, and the families of victims identify problem areas and discuss potential solutions. Where do you stand in this discussion? Does liability fall on the parents? Companies? Legal system? #OnlineSafety #Hearing #ChildSafety

Politics should not be a factor in whether or not we should protect kids online. But unfortunately for some, it does. So for those who think we should follow the polls, here is one for you. The Hill Majority of battleground voters support kids’ online safety laws: Poll The survey also questioned voters specifically about the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA), which would add regulations that aim to mitigate concerns about the use of certain tools and features and their impact on children’s mental health. Seventy-eight percent of voters said they would support KOSA, including 83 percent of Democrats and 78 percent of Republicans. https://lnkd.in/e5Eiyhbb If you are part of this super majority of Americans who believe Congress should pass KOSA, dial #250 on your mobile devices and use the phrase "online child safety" to connect directly to Senator Schumer's DC office. Tell Senator Schumer to bring the Kids Online Safety Act (#KOSA) to the Senate floor this week! Also read NYTimes Opinion: Surgeon General: Why I’m Calling for a Warning Label on Social Media Platforms "Why is it that we have failed to respond to the harms of social media when they are no less urgent or widespread than those posed by unsafe cars, planes or food? These harms are not a failure of willpower and parenting; they are the consequence of unleashing powerful technology without adequate safety measures, transparency or accountability." https://lnkd.in/eAHd3eFa #passkosa #kosa #protectkidsonline #childsafety
