🌍 What Would a 2024 Trump Presidency Mean for Climate Action? 🌍 A second Trump term raises important questions about the global fight against climate change. During his previous term, Donald Trump’s administration rolled back environmental regulations, withdrew from the Paris Agreement, and prioritized fossil fuel expansion. A similar approach in a new term could reshape international climate efforts significantly. With climate impacts escalating, this election could have lasting consequences on global climate action and commitments. The future of international climate progress may hinge on the direction the U.S. takes in 2024. 🌱 #ClimateAction #USElection2024 #Sustainability #GlobalWarming #ParisAgreement Marwa Bendaoud Patricia Pereira Diogo

🎈Happy sweet 16 to the UK Climate Change Act 🎈 Today's the anniversary of the world's first legally binding climate targets coming into force. Like so many good ideas, the act was born in the pub. Lamenting the UK's woeful progress on cutting emissions, campaigners from Friends of the Earth devised the Big Ask campaign. And with support from the NGO and a certain bacon-butty-eating politician, the act finally came into law on 26th November 2008. The act tripled the rate of emissions reductions, according to new FoE analysis. But despite early progress, climate action has since stalled and we're at a crossroads. We have a choice: a greener, more equitable and more stable world, or fossil-fuelled chaos where the world is subject to the whims of plutocrats. Climate action has never been more important. 🚨 With the #USelections results, the EU now holds a pivotal role in global #climateaction and must provide reliable climate leadership. The US is set to step back from driving global action to reach the 1.5 degree target. Trump has, among other things, hinted at withdrawing the the US from the Paris Agreement and reducing domestic climate regulations. "The EU’s leading role in global climate action is now more important than ever. Now is the time to show that an ambitious, stable, and reliable governance framework which supports fair climate action can attract clean investment and boost Europe’s industrial competitiveness." says our director Jonas M. Helseth. 🗞 Read Bellona's reaction here: https://lnkd.in/dxMEVNzG #climateactionnow #climate #EUpolicy #climatetargets #US
