We have received European Commission approval for: - an increase in the film tax credit cap to €125m - extension of the tax credit to the end of 2028 This will help to attract more major global film & TV productions to Ireland Minister Michael McGrath TD has now signed these 2 orders https://lnkd.in/eUS9vVxj
That’s good but repeated 4 year ONLY extension of the tax credit is not good enough. How can any studio consider Ireland in their future plans when there is doubt over the tax credit every 4 years. There should be legislation to put it in place for 15 years thus giving certainty. Then producers could plan ahead with Ireland in mind. Their eyes will be on other places until government addresses this. And studio infrastructure.. we are not at the races otherwise .
Vital to keep supporting film, theatre and the arts in Ireland - we are the calling card for all our international profile and nation building.
It is very smart that Ireland is acknowledging the next wave of high-end revenues (and countless jobs) will come from entertainment, not just big tech. Onwards. Now we need to do more to try become an AI center of excellence in Europe. It will be a big miss to ignore that.
Why do we require EU Commissuon for this - tax is supposedly a competence retained by nation States, at least that is what we were told when voting for various EU Treaties! Quite pathetic that we must go begging Europe for what are lose change items in the annual Budget.
This good news rings hollow in the shadow of the UK's new 39.75% Independent Film Tax Credit which is just one of a suite of film, TV & animation incentives from our friends (and competitors) on the big island.
What about the unscripted side of the great industry?? .. Catherine Martin as Minister I implore you & your colleagues in power to make this happen to our much battered, bruised & forgotten about side of the industry.
The headline post is very positive and I would have thought a reason to celebrate but many comments below do not support this. We have made huge strides in the film industry and TV production and I am very proud of our achievements.
Great stuff. We just need to break ground on the film studio & media campus in Greystones. The halted project is of great concern to a lot of locals.
Wonderful news that a sovereign nation has to seek 'approval' from a supranational body to improve its film industry.

8moSuperb news - where is the funding now to develop new state of the art film and production Studios in Ireland to rival Pinewood and Elstree studios . Also does it have to be Dublin centric ?
