Fantastic meeting with our 12 first-year SGN apprentices this morning as they begin their journey in the gas industry! 🎉
Proud to celebrate over 20 years of partnership between Fife College and Scottish Gas Network.
Here’s to their bright futures ahead! 🔧💡"

Last week I had the pleasure of joining over 70 of our apprentices at the Outward Bound Centre in the Lake District for their first week induction with EDF.
It was a fun filled week that concentrated on getting some important messages across to them as they begin their EDF journey, as well as giving the apprentices the opportunity to network with others from all across the UK.

Yesterday, SLPTG members voted overwhelmingly in favour of merging the training group with The Association of Technical Lightning & Access Specialists (ATLAS), leaving one single organisation to support the steeplejack and lightning protection sectors.
It was a big moment for our members and for the industry.
For five decades, SLPTG has played a vital role in ensuring the industry has access to a skilled workforce by providing a national system for training and apprenticeships. Meanwhile, ATLAS has taken great strides to improve safety, working practices and technical excellence in the same sectors.
The organisations work closely together and share common goals, but there is significant duplication of effort. Joining forces means taking a more streamlined and focused approach. The steeplejack and lightning protection sectors can speak with a unified voice, better pool our resources and face the future together.
The decision to merge into one legal entity follows several years of planning, discussion and healthy debate. In the end, more than 85% of SLPTG members voted in favour at the well-attended annual general meeting in Nottingham, chaired by Roy Westwick CMIOSH, Assoc. CIPD.
In due course, this decision means SLPTG will wind down its activities and ATLAS will become the only membership organisation for the steeplejack and lightning protection sectors.
The wheels are now in motion to make this a reality. This will include the creation of a training committee within ATLAS to carry on the work of SLPTG. Stay tuned for more details.
Great to catch up with many of the Seafood ORE Working Group members at the NMCI Seafarers’ Conference in Limerick (note the shining light on Cpt Robert McCabe lol).
Lots of insightful discussions during the panels yesterday. Key take aways for me were:
The importance of establishing stakeholder relationships, fostering trust through early engagement & accepting compromise to maximise the potential for coexistence.
The need to fill data gaps, particularly for the nearshore fishing fleet.
The requirement for a robust planning system in order to meet 2030 energy targets.
The benefits of being able to learn lessons from other markets & not reinventing the wheel.
The huge supply chain & job opportunities for Ireland, noting the importance of ensuring young people are aware of the wide ranging potential careers available within the offshore wind industry, provision of apprenticeship schemes & upskilling people to close the skills gaps.

Does DOE have industrial training in quantum energy technologies? In the scientific field, energy technologies are evolving rapidly and offer new possibilities for an energy transition and a sustainable future.
While classical methods such as solar panels, wind energy, nuclear energy, fusion, hydrogen, etc, are not the solution to the energy problem. No one can prove otherwise the problem is scientific it has no solution.
Just ask yourself why are there so many and all provide a negative return investment of 100% EROI in energy production, are behind.
The development of new quantum energy technologies is changing the landscape. Quantum Energy operates independently and with 100% self-sustaining efficiency, regardless of space or land, providing safe energy.
This innovative approach, exemplified by Empere®, is pioneering the creation of massive quantum plants that are 100% self-sufficient, efficient, and independent. With its innovative solutions, Empere® is paving the way for safe and sustainable energy to provide licenses for all industries that want positive EROI production! thanks, www.empere.net
We're expanding the Industrial Training and Assessment Centers (ITAC) network! The ITAC program trains American workers for clean energy jobs while strengthening our country’s small and medium-sized manufacturers.
Today, we’re announcing $24M in new ITAC selections. These 21 job training and manufacturer assistance projects will be hosted by union training programs, community colleges, trade schools, and apprenticeship providers across the country. They will prepare thousands of participants for high-quality careers that do not require a four-year degree, all while helping hundreds of small businesses save money and lower their energy bills. There’s less than a week to go before the SkillPLUMB UK Final starts – in a first for this year, competitors will be demonstrating their low carbon knowledge in a new heat pump task developed in collaboration with Ideal Heating.
In addition to their main plumbing installation task, competitors will need to identify key components of a heat pump, explain how a heat pump creates usable heat and explain the advantages of heat pumps both for the user and the planet.
Today’s apprentices are the plumbers of tomorrow and installing low carbon solutions such as heat pumps will be central to their future role – so we’re proud to be able to start introducing them to low carbon concepts and help prepare them for what’s to come.
Yesterday, President Biden announced new actions from his Investing in America agenda to connect Milwaukee, Wisconsin residents to good-paying jobs, including replacing lead pipes and upgrading infrastructure through the Milwaukee Workforce Hub. The city’s Hub is one of nine Investing in America Workforce Hubs launched by the Biden-Harris Administration to ensure all Americans —including women, people of color, veterans, and other that have been historically left behind–have access to job opportunities, and the training needed to fill them. This announcement is EPA’s final rule to replace lead pipes within a decade and announced $2.6 billion in new funding to deliver clean drinking water nationwide.
MMSD is grateful to partner with our community to enhance our certified pre-apprenticeship programs through WRTP | BIG STEP and MMSD is committed starting in 2025 to requiring apprenticeships for all crafts involved in our projects, which helps bring new talent into specialized fields such as pipefitting and operating engineering.
