How is studying Geography like? Well, a semester into the course I thought of writing on this. By definition : Geography is the study of the world’s surface, physical qualities, climate, population, products, etc. Think about it as a subject that encompasses everything under the sun. It's a tapestry of knowledge. It is like knowing the world, being aware of it and digging into truths and unfolding mysteries. What more does a student want? From the realms of the natural world, - geomorphology, encompassing complex processes under the earth surface - geotectonics to the comparative study of society's concepts and analysing new age thinking. Isn't that great? I myself being a student of Geography find it very versatile on how this subject gives us the exposure to think, analyze, know and put forth the knowledge in use to solve real world problems. From designing to planning to sustainable development everything. Indeed geography is the "mother of all subjects". Although, it might get tricky, technical and mathematical at times giving me an intense headache but nonetheless it's the best thing ever. For me falling in love with academics was only possible because of this subject. #geography #undergraduate #linkedin #geology #connections #university #collegelife #academics #semester #innovation #creativity #future #nature #geomophology #physicalgeography #reach #likes #linkedin

I had the privilege of attending an inspiring special lecture by Dr. Arularasi Balakrishnan, Senior Lecturer at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, on "The Evolution of Geographical Thought: Paradigms, Theoretical Debates, and Methodological Advances." This event, organized by the Department of Geography, University of Madras, was a deep dive into how geographical thought has transformed over the centuries. Dr. Balakrishnan discussed the key paradigms that have shaped the discipline, from environmental determinism to spatial analysis, as well as the various theoretical debates that have emerged in recent years. She also highlighted the significant methodological advances in data collection and analysis, which are revolutionizing how we approach geographical research today. This lecture enhanced my understanding of the subject and providing fresh insights into the evolving nature of geography as both a theoretical and applied discipline. #Geography #GeographicalThought #UniversityOfMadras #GIS

DP Year 1 students had their Geography fieldwork on #Types of transport around the school premises today. 📐🚙🚗🛣️ This obligatory part of Diploma Programme Geography Course, not only does it develop their knowledge and skills as the added value to their classroom experiences, but also supports supports students’ motivation and enhances learning in geography. 🛑 🚏 Some technical aspects behind any geography fieldwork: 🔵Students are required to produce a local, small scale study within which primary data collection must take place. 🔵Skills will include planning, collection of data (primary and secondary), presentation, interpretation and evaluation. 🔵The planned fieldwork investigation should, where possible, be located as follows. It should be: 🟡on a local scale, but one that allows for sufficient information to be collected an area of a size that can be covered by all students in the time allocated safely accessible at the times when data collection 🔵will be undertaken open to the public and be an area where research is permitted. Source: Geography Guide Now, #DP #Geography #Students are going to create the flowline maps and graphs based on collected date so the Geography Fieldwork Report can be organised. Way to go! 🛣️It was a pleasant school time on the First Day of Spring. #DP #HighSchool #geographyFieldwork #practicalskills #outsideclassroomexperiences #InternalAssessment
