What Is PBT Fabric? Polybutylene terephthalate fabric ( Contact Mandy +15861669635 ) is a synthetic textile. It falls under polyester fabrics. The fabric shares similarities with other polyester variations, such as PET fabric. PBT fabric has excellent resistance to abrasion, chemicals, and UV radiation. Thus, it is suitable for outdoor environments. It can withstand rigorous use and maintain its structural quality over time. The fabric also has sustainable features. It can be produced using recycled materials. Thus, it reduces the negative environmental impact. Its durability and longevity also help minimize waste by extending the lifespan of products made from PBT fabric.

RELIANCE HE Project is progressing with innovative practices in textile technology! 📰 Excited to share that the “Polyfunctional biobased PU coatings” article was just published in this month’s edition of the Bioplastics magazine. The piece highlights Centexbel’s development within RELIANCE of cutting-edge #biobased polyurethane (PU) #coatings for textiles, with embedded antimicrobial products. These coatings, made of 100% biobased polyol and isophorone diisocyanate, boast important water barrier properties, surviving over 25 industrial washing cycles. Their transparency and compatibility with antimicrobial products make them a novelty in textile technology. The #innovation doesn't stop there! Nanostructuring of the PU surface enhances hydrophobicity and #antimicrobial efficacy, providing superior protection against microorganisms. This biobased PU coating also allows for easy end-of-life recovery through selective solvolysis, enabling mechanical recycling without fabric degradation. 👕 For more insights, dive into the full piece in Comments below 👇

Fiber industry worldwide – where is the journey heading? Textile fibers have a long history since their advent. Flax is the oldest known fiber, used for the first time several tens of thousands of years ago, followed by cotton, silk and other natural fibers. Manufactured fibers were invented much later to meet the growing demand of fibers by the textile industry. The first man-made fiber to be produced at the end of the 19th century was a cellulose wood-based fiber, viscose (rayon). Synthetic fibers became commercially available later – polyamide (nylon) as from the late 1930s. Is your comfy cotton T-shirt a secret eco-villain? Welcome back to "From Seed to Stitch!" In the last post, we discussed about Scouring. In this one, we'll move to the next stages: Purifying, Fiber Finishing, and Opening & Drying. Purifying: This step is just like the whitening treatment of your teeth but for the fibres. Cotton is bleached by treating it with hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) at high temperatures to eliminate natural pigments and achieve a white and uniform appearance. Further, it is soaked in a concentrated sodium hydroxide ( NaOH) solution under tension to improve the strength of the fiber, lustre and dye affinity. Lastly, it is washed with water and acetic acid ( CH3COOH) to restore its pH balance, ensuring that the cotton is safe and comfortable. Fibre Finishing: After the cotton is purified, it undergoes treatment with softening agents like silicone-based compounds for a silky texture, quaternary ammonium compounds like cetrimonium chloride for antistatic properties, and fatty acid esters for suppleness. Flame retardants and antimicrobial agents are also applied, for functional finishing followed by fixation to ensure durability, making the fabric suitable for diverse applications. Opening & Drying: After purification and finishing, cotton experiences mechanical separation to fluff and prepare for further processing. Later, the fibres are dried to remove residual moisture, ensuring they are ready to be spun into yarn or other textile manufacturing processes. This stage optimizes fibre quality and readiness. These steps involve chemical discharge into waterways, high energy consumption, significant carbon emissions and intense water usage that drains out local resources which in short, is not healthy for the environment at all. With this, we have come to the end of our series about cotton and how we can help by choosing a better alternative. Enhancing the functionality of cotton fabrics is crucial for advancing textile technology. This study addresses the challenge of improving both dye adsorption efficiency and antibacterial properties of cotton, which are essential for producing high-performance textiles. The grafting of cotton fabrics with diallyldimethylammonium chloride significantly boosts reactive dye adsorption and antibacterial capabilities. By modifying the fabric at room temperature using a redox initiator system, this study found a marked increase in nitrogen content and enhanced dye adsorption efficiency. The modified cotton fabrics reached dye adsorption equilibrium in just 30 minutes, showcasing improved performance based on dye concentration, chemical structure, and molecular weight. Discover how this innovation is paving the way for more functional and sustainable textiles.
