Recently, I've noticed a significant shift, sparked by the realization that we're in a race—a race we risk losing if we don't accelerate. This wake-up call created a movement. With this new sense of urgency, there's been a significant surge in ambition and pride among European founders. We don't want to participate anymore - we are in it to win! What about you? Yesterday, I had the privilege of participating in a conference by Daron Acemoglu at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, organized by the Hirschman family 🎤. His main points were clear: while AI 🤖 holds immense potential, it also risks deepening inequality 🌍 and displacing jobs 💼, particularly in developing countries. Acemoglu emphasized the need for institutions 🏛️ to ensure that AI complements human labor and drives inclusive growth 📊. His insights reminded us that technological progress alone is not enough—it must be shaped by governance that promotes shared prosperity 🤝. However, some questions remain unanswered. I am just thinking of: 🔴 What role can international organizations play in ensuring AI benefits are shared globally? 🔴 How can global inequalities be addressed, ensuring equitable access to AI’s benefits across countries? 🔴 What policies are needed to mitigate AI-driven job displacement, especially in lower-skill sectors? #AI #Development #Economics #InclusiveGrowth #UNESCO

There is no denying that the age of AI is upon us and its role in our future is inevitable. We have quickly become accustomed to its usage in our everyday lives, and it is being hailed as the next General Purpose Technology, destined to transform our society on the scale of the printing press or the airplane. Thus far, Canada has been a leader in both research and talent development, but more is needed to guarantee our standing at the forefront of implementation. To avoid being left behind by larger economies, we must develop a prosperity strategy. While much of the conversation centers on the domestic benefits of AI innovation, there is a critical need for Canada to create a foundation for global collaboration. It is time to move beyond policy and develop an ecosystem that encourages adoption by businesses, thus attracting revenue and talent from all over the world. With the right action today, we will not only be poised to step gracefully into the future but also to create it. AI enables us to predict health crises, economic downturns, and infrastructure failures before they even happen. Proactive leadership is the future. Without trust, AI means nothing. People need to know the systems are fair, transparent, and explainable. The public sector must build AI that’s easy to understand, free from bias, and designed to serve everyone. Trust is everything.
