Funding discrimination is a democratic problem. Last night, we talked about it on national TV 👇 It's easy to think that funding discrimination only impacts women or people of color. It doesn't, and here's why: Founders often build companies to solve problems they've personally experienced. When women and people of color don't get funded, the problems faced by these groups don't get solved. This is evident in every industry from healthcare to education and beyond. Funding discrimination also prevents women and people of color from equally participating in the innovation of products/services that affect everyone. From the racist and sexist bias in AI to the development of everyday products within beauty, healthcare, transportation and beyond. Again, this is very well proven by research. Therefore, we should all care about the fact that female founders receive less than 2% of funding while Black founders receive less than 0,5% of funding (men and women combined!). It's not good enough - and the solution is not that hard. Right now, ~90% VC Partners are (mainly white) men. We've said it before, and we'll say it again: 50% of the population is not qualified to make decisions about 100% of the population. Is it that only 2% of all female founders get funded or 2% of all funded founders are women? If the last one is correct, then it also depends how many founders are females. I know this is not the case but if only females make 2 % of all founders, and if they all get funded, it is still only 2% funded female lead companies. It would be nice to get all numbers, they are all important.
Love this -> “50% of the population is not qualified to make decisions about 100% of the population”. 👏👏
This topic needs to be spoken about more often - thanks for your insights yet again Female Invest!
Thank you for raising awareness of this important topic. We need more female founders and more diverse, sustainable businesses. We should also push for more inclusive funding practices and help women to access such schemes.
We can't complain - we finally have a fem-tech unicorn in europe - flow....good thing the male founders and their investors really cared about female menstruation...:D:D:D
This is why I love your Impact Funds book! Then we can choose what cause our money is invested into.
🙌🙌🙌 Thank you for using your voices and platform to consistently highlight this! 💪

4moThe core issue with funding discrimination, in my view, lies in investor bias and a lack of self-awareness regarding their decision-making patterns. From my experience, many investors subconsciously gravitate towards supporting a "mini-me" – someone who reminds them of their younger selves. Naturally, they’re inclined to bet on someone who mirrors their own journey. Given that statistics show around 90% of investors are white men, it's not a surprise that they often place their trust and capital in young white males. However, every young entrepreneur has a distinct cultural and social background, which influences the unique challenges they aim to address. To bridge this gap, investors need to embrace a language of empathy, while entrepreneurs should focus on speaking the language of business.
