But what happens when you need to forget something from that learned data? 🤔 Traditional methods involve retraining the entire model from scratch, which is not just resource-intensive but also highly inefficient. Enter efficient machine unlearning – a novel solution in the world of machine learning that allows models to "forget" certain data points without the need for complete retraining. Over the past 10 months, my team Lewaa Thebian, Hussameddine Al Attar, Fawzia Zeitoun and I at Maroun Semaan Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at AUB, led by our esteemed professor Dr. Ibrahim Issa, embarked on a mission to tackle this challenge head-on. Today, we're thrilled to unveil our groundbreaking Educational Machine Unlearning Platform! Our platform introduces several innovative unlearning algorithms that enable efficient model unlearning without compromising privacy or model integrity. By addressing data privacy and bias in AI models, we ensure compliance with regulations like GDPR. 🔒 Featuring three unlearning algorithms – two reproduced from literature and one developed and optimized in-house – our platform sets a new standard in machine unlearning. We've also integrated robust evaluation metrics, including Membership Inference Attacks (MIA), to measure the success of unlearning processes, enhancing the platform's utility in real-world applications. 📊 But that's not all! As part of our commitment to education, we've empowered users with in-depth knowledge of machine unlearning principles and techniques.
