Kirke Snyder taught me the incredible value of asking, “Would it be helpful if…?” My first mentor, he gave me so many skills and insights that have served me well in the  decades since. But those five words have reverberated across my career, making me a far more helpful and valuable presence in the life of my clients. You could also argue that those words are in part responsible for the success of iDS; they are a way to add value, to unearth problems and to ultimately give each client what they need, instead of only what they first thought to request. I was fortunate to see Kirke last week in Denver, and it was a true pleasure to catch up with him. We worked together at three successive firms, and I started out as a wet-behind-the-ears newbie. By the time we went in different directions, I was incredibly better off for knowing him. On my end, our catch-up was gratifying, enjoyable and a bit emotional. He gave me amazing opportunities to learn and grow, and I have benefited greatly from his wisdom and experience. But seeing him again was more than a chance to come up to speed and reconnect. It also offered a rare opportunity to look back on my life and the path I have taken so far.
