One of the great things that my years as a tech recruiter brought me, was the ability to navigate the tech scene (now) as a software developer and not fall into very very common traps a lot of companies still use today. There's so many ill minded companies in the Portuguese market still using near-illegal practices and "financial engineering" that put the employees at risk... Fake business travel kilometers, fake hourly rate exemptions, paying a huge chunk of the salary in over-marketed "flex benefits", fake apprenticeships and internships that have no real intention of hiring you even if you do a great job... If you're a woman, there's even more traps with some recruiters asking you in slippery ways if you plan to have children or not... The list goes on and on. Everyone seems to focus *only* on the bright side of tech. Believe me, the tech scene has given me a quality of life that is impossible elsewhere, but everyone should be aware that things are not only as they seem. This advice is particularly important for juniors and other people looking for their first career opportunities in tech. Stay safe out there! #softwaredevelopment #tech #recruitment #portugal

Crazy that it takes us years to understand the traps only to realize it’s a cat mouse game. The internacional market also has a bunch of traps: Equity you can’t sell unless it’s under very specific rules, “unlimited” vacations…I wonder how “kids” entering the market are doing…
lowering taxes and turn illegal some of the mentions pratices (travelling km's and "flex benefits") would be great. that way at least one would compensate the other.
