A company has been fined after a worker died in a preventable excavation collapse. Derek Caddie tragically lost his life when part of an excavation wall collapsed on him at a construction site in Glasgow. The incident occurred on November 25, 2019, while he was working with a colleague to repair damaged pipework. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigation found that the collapse was caused by a lack of support for the excavation walls. Carrig Construction Services Limited, the company responsible for the site, failed to identify the risks and implement necessary safety measures.
