NDC (New Distribution Capability) is an IATA-led standard that modernizes airline distribution by enabling richer, more personalized offers through direct API connections. It allows airlines to provide dynamic pricing, customized ancillaries, and tailored offers directly to travel agents and customers, bypassing traditional GDS limitations. NDC enhances transparency, giving travel agents access to full content and exclusive offers. It also streamlines the booking process, improving efficiency and reducing dependency on intermediaries. Overall, NDC empowers airlines and agents to deliver a more engaging and personalized customer experience. NDC testing ensures the seamless integration and functionality of NDC APIs, validating accurate fare display, booking processes, and personalized offers. It also checks system performance, scalability, and compliance with IATA standards, guaranteeing a smooth customer experience. #NDC #TravelTech #AirlineDistribution #DynamicPricing #Personalization #CustomerExperience #AviationInnovation #DirectDistribution #AncillaryServices #NDCTesting #APIIntegration #TravelTech #AirlineDistribution #CustomerExperience

On 9th Dec, I attended an event organised by Travelport The theme of the event was Modernisation of Travel Agencies with Automation & NDC (New Distribution Capability) What is NDC ? NDC is a new system that lets airlines sell tickets and services directly with more personalized options and real-time updates. Later, Industry leaders like John C. Elieson , Alexis Guest, Damian Hickey, and Anil Prashar shared insights on the future of travel tech and NDC advancements. How have we used it ? 1. Nixtour India Private Limited has integrated NDC for over 15 airlines, with several more in progress. It’s a new and modern tool to enhance experience. 2. A few challenges: NDC faces higher financial costs and technological complexities compared to traditional EDIFACT via GDS. 3. While outdated, EDIFACT remains more stable and widely used, making NDC adoption challenging. In the coming years, these issues will be resolved hopefully. What are your views on NDC ? #Travelwithnix

Airline Economics: 115 Understanding NDC. New Distribution Capability (NDC) is an XML-based communication standard created by the International Air Transportation Association (IATA). It allows airlines to bring rich content and ancillaries directly to online travel agencies (OTAs), travel management companies (TMCs), and other flight resellers through a set of travel APIs. NDC aims to replace the old EDIFACT (Electronic Data Interchange for Administration, Commerce, and Transport) protocol, which has been around since the 1980s. NDC Booking Flow: In a traditional booking flow, a GDS builds an offer from pieces of flight content. It takes data on availability from an airline’s CRS, rates from air price repository ATPCO, and schedules from OAG or Cirium databases. The NDC approach allows carriers to take back control of their products, adjusting offers to current market demand and customer preferences. Airlines can distribute their offers both directly and via middlemen capable of delivering NDC products (GDSs and aggregators). NDC Advantages: NDC provides several benefits to airlines, travel resellers, and end customers: - Rich Shopper Experience: Unlike EDIFACT, NDC allows airlines to merchandise additional services like excess baggage, extra legroom, onboard WiFi, pre-ordered meals, and more. Airlines can also provide distributors with photos, detailed product descriptions, promotional messages, and comprehensive seat maps. - Reduced Dependency on Legacy Systems: An NDC-capable engine works outside of legacy systems and presents information from PSS databases through airlines’ private interfaces, addressing performance and modernization issues. - Personalized Offer Creation: NDC enables airlines to personalize the customer experience, and distributors can deliver those customized offers to travelers. - Flexible, Real-Time Ticket Pricing: NDC supports dynamic pricing, allowing airlines to tailor fares in real-time based on current market conditions and passenger profiles. This flexibility contrasts with the static pricing traditionally published via ATPCO. #NDC #AirlineIndustry #AviationTechnology #TravelTech #DynamicPricing #AirlineDistribution #IATA #FlightBooking #AirlineRetailing #TravelAPIs

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥: 𝐁𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 When codesharing was introduced, it revolutionized the way airlines expanded their networks without having to operate all those routes themselves. At #T2RLEngage 2024, Robert Booth of Amadeus has stated Amadeus Nevio is not intended to support airline codeshare. He also emphasized that travelers are looking for transparency, consistent product offerings, and seamless problem resolution throughout their journey. His statement becomes significant given their dominant share in distribution and PSS systems in the market. I also find this aligns with two key industry trends: - NDC's current inability to natively support codeshared flights. (*Edit: NDC can support codeshare, apologies for the mistake) - The rise of virtual interlining. The future could look something like this: - Technology-driven solutions like virtual interline replacing traditional partnerships. - Responsibility for honoring the ticket moves from airline to technology company or aggregators. IMO, it gives greater opportunities for OTAs like Kiwi.com and tech companies like Duffel and many others to innovate freely in this space and take modern airline retailing further. Disclaimer: I wasn’t at the event live and Amadeus news was based on what was reported by T2RL. #NDC #AirlineTechnology #VirtualInterlining #Duffel #Amadeus #FutureOfTravel #T2RL Image courtesy: Freepik
