Mr. Rohit Kumar, Secretary General of CMAI, underscored the vast potential of the Indian Carbon Market and emerging opportunities in the Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) sector at the India Refining Summit organized by Messe Frankfurt India. Special thanks to Mr. Ian Cumberland, Energy Officer at the U.S. Embassy, for highlighting the critical role of CCUS in the refining sector. Additionally, Mr. Vivek Menezes, Managing Director and CEO of Harmony Environmental Systems Private Limited, presented insights on preparing flue gas streams for carbon capture. With India’s total theoretical storage capacity estimated between 395 - 614 Gt CO₂ for the period from 2030 to 2050, a carbon credits-based policy can play a pivotal role in driving the adoption of CCUS technologies. By incentivizing these practices, we can lower the costs associated with carbon capture, create markets for low-carbon products, and significantly decarbonize our industrial landscape. By offsetting carbon capture costs, we can not only meet environmental goals but also foster innovation and economic growth. Join the Carbon Markets Association of India (CMAI) to explore effective strategies for reducing carbon footprints through innovative green technologies and generating carbon credits for your projects. In May 2022, the United States launched the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF). Building on this initiative, in June 2024, India unveiled a comprehensive investment plan at the inaugural IPEF Clean Economy Investor Forum in Singapore, targeting over $500 billion in investment opportunities by 2030. During the forum, Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal highlighted India's significant business reforms over the past decade, designed to improve the business environment, particularly in the clean energy sector. These reforms have focused on areas such as renewable energy, green hydrogen, electric vehicles (EVs), and infrastructure transition. In the sustainable infrastructure track, four prominent Indian companies—ReNew Power, Avaada Energy Pvt. Ltd, Indusbridge Capital Advisors LLP, and Powerica Limited—were selected to present their innovative concepts to global investors. These companies showcased projects aimed at driving the transition to sustainable infrastructure. Similarly, in the ClimateTech track, ten Indian startups and companies were chosen to pitch their cutting-edge ideas and solutions aimed at combating climate change. These companies included BluSmart, Recykal, LOHUM, Sea6 Energy, Newtrace and Alt Mobility, Kabira Mobility Private Limited, EVage Ventures Private Limited, Batx Energies Private Limited, and igrenEnergi, Inc. A notable outcome of the forum was the operational launch of the IPEF Catalytic Capital Fund. This fund aims to provide concessional financing and technical assistance for clean economy infrastructure projects. Founding supporters, including Australia, Japan, Korea, and the US, have pledged an initial grant funding of USD 33 million, which is expected to catalyze up to USD 3.3 billion in private investment. #Sikich #SikichIndia #CleanEnergy #Investment #Finance

In my quest to deepen my understanding of carbon markets, I have completed the "Advanced Concepts of Climate Change and Carbon Markets" course offered by atingi.org, developed by the Indian chapter of the Global Carbon Markets project under the aegis of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. This self-paced, advanced course was a deep dive into the structure and dynamics of the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM). It equipped me with the knowledge to develop VCM projects, understand the carbon project lifecycle, and examine the current global status and specifics of the VCM, including insightful Indian case studies. Key takeaways included: -Understanding Market Players and Components: Gaining insight into the various stakeholders in carbon markets. -Calculating Emission Reductions: Learning the quantitative methods for determining the impact of carbon projects. -Exploring the Carbon Project Lifecycle: From inception to verification, understanding each phase in detail. -Global and Local Views on Carbon Markets: Analyzing global trends and specific case studies from India. -Pricing Dynamics: Studying the state of carbon credits and their pricing mechanisms. I am excited to apply this advanced knowledge to further my career and contribute effectively to sustainable development and climate action. #ClimateChange #CarbonMarkets #Sustainability #VCM #GIZ #BMWK

South Asia, home to over a quarter of the global population and one of the world's fastest-growing regions, faces a dual challenge: sustainability meeting its rising energy demands while building resilience to its heightened vulnerability to climate change. With its dense population, economic diversity, and varying levels of development, South Asia presents unique energy challenges. How the region addresses its growing energy needs will greatly impact the global transition to clean energy markets. Advancing clean energy in South Asia can stimulate industry and markets, create new opportunities, and drive economic growth while improving living standards. Through the USAID India Advancing the US-India Partnership Platform Activity, we are supporting RTI International in organizing the South Asia Clean Energy Forum 2024. This event will bring together government ministries, public agencies, public sector organizations, development partners, civil society groups, researchers, academics, think tanks, private sector leaders, and energy experts. The forum aims to foster knowledge-sharing, strengthen collaborations, and develop solutions for South Asia's clean energy challenges.
