Our new guide, "Building by the rules: A crash course for federal technologists," introduces government web and digital practitioners to public policy, which influences technology projects as a force both for and against change. It was created for Digital.gov by Trey Gordner and Chizobam Nwagwu, Fellows in the U.S. Digital Corps — an early‑career fellowship designed for the country’s top technology talent to serve in the federal government. "Building by the rules" https://lnkd.in/eEUwzj6S guides you through: - Six types of policy - Exploring the policy framing for FindSupport.gov as a case study - Key federal statutes around information collection, accessibility, privacy, and security; the Paperwork Reduction Act (PRA), Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Privacy Act of 1974, and the Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA)

This is an interesting an informative analysis of the history and background to the issues and challenges facing our education service. As the report makes clear, there are no simple solutions or magic wand the new government can wave. The kind of question we are grappling with in the Schools of Tomorrow community of school leaders www.schoolsoftomorrow.org is what we can do now and how they can shape the education they provide beyond the immediate electoral cycle. https://lnkd.in/ek5PisNy

🚨 Action Alert: Protect Our Education & Workforce Programs! 🚨 On June 27, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies approved its FY 2025 appropriations bill, and it's time for us to take action! While there's good news with a proposed $10 million increase to the Perkins Basic State Grant, several critical education and workforce programs face significant cuts or elimination. 🌐 These cuts would drastically affect programs like WIOA Youth and Adult, federal work-study, Registered Apprenticeship, and ESSA Title I and II. As someone deeply invested in the success of our nation's logistics and transportation sectors, I understand the necessity of a well-rounded education and workforce system. Cutting funds to these pivotal programs threatens the broader career pathways and resources our industry relies on to build a skilled, competent workforce. 🚛🔧 We must ensure that Members of Congress recognize the far-reaching impacts of these proposed cuts. I urge you to make your voice heard. 📢 CLICK BELOW to tell your Members of Congress to oppose these cuts using the ACTE Action Center or connect via the U.S. Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121. Our collective efforts are crucial in maintaining robust support for our education and workforce development systems. Let's work together to support the future of our industry and our workforce! 💼 #AdvocateForEducation #WorkforceDevelopment #SupportCTE

My colleagues in government are seeking input from the public (that's YOU!) about "making it easier for the public to engage with their Government, and to harnessing their knowledge, needs, and lived experiences to improve how Government works for them and with them." There is an open call for public comment (where you can be very descriptive) as well as a form for those who prefer that format for feedback. Please take some time to give your thoughts about engaging with and improving government, and please share this with individuals and organizations in your network. https://lnkd.in/gG8KfHAA

The prolonged delays in FAFSA processing extend beyond administrative challenges; they cast a considerable mental burden on students eagerly awaiting crucial financial aid decisions. As these delays persist, the toll on students' mental well-being becomes increasingly evident. The uncertainty surrounding financial aid packages, coupled with the anticipation of important life decisions, can lead to heightened stress and anxiety amongst students. As we continue to partner with institutions to navigate the complexities of FAFSA processing, it's imperative to communicate with students and their families in ways that address both the logistical and emotional challenges students face. By streamlining processes and providing clear communications , we can mitigate the impact of these delays. Together, we can create an environment that prioritizes student well-being and fosters resilience, ensuring that financial aid hurdles don't hinder academic and personal growth.
