In cybersecurity there’s a concept called zero trust. I.e. if you don’t trust anything until it’s properly verified you’re much safer. In other words, treat everyone as a scammer. It’s not a very nice way of being but no one wants to be ripped off. It feels like the digital world has just progressed out of the ‘leaving your doors unlocked’ world of the 1950s and straight into crime-ridden 1980s New York City, where if you’re street smart you treat everyone like a potential mugger. Last week one of my team was working on this reel I did. What do you think of my Bahasa Indonesia? Our Indonesian colleagues were impressed. But it’s not real. It’s an AI translation tool. I did another reel last year about Spotify using this technology <https://lnkd.in/gs9yNzfg> to do the same with podcasts, so they can go out in any language. It’s great and terrifying. I can’t speak Bahasa, and I have no idea what I’m saying here but it looks like I do. And what a great way to present myself, in multiple languages, my reach is instantly amplified. This technology is being used <https://lnkd.in/gYHrcxHN> to create celebrity chat bots so you can get advice and tips from your favourite celeb. Again equally fascinating and terrifying. Seeing this I feel like I will now have to have zero trust about digital content until somehow authenticated. It’s a sad situation but how else to protect yourself from being deceived.
