Nepal's Political and Security situations Nepal’s new government may not last even though it has brought together the communist flock under one tent. It may not be long before Prime Minister Prachanda finds the rug pulled from under his feet. Clearly, the personal ambitions of leaders may take precedence over ‘Red Unity’. This does not augur well for Nepal’s political stability, and less so for its economy, which has seen little investment and is heavily dependent on remittances from Nepalis working abroad. There are implications also for Nepal’s relations with China, that could go forward. India may play the waiting game, preferring that its projects in Nepal do the talking. In 1971, Bangladeshis bravely fought for nine months to secure their independence, with India stepping in to support their struggle. We owe a debt of gratitude to India for that assistance. However, it is concerning that Narendra Modi has been framing the Bangladesh-Pakistan conflict as an India-Pakistan war. This perspective undermines the significant role that Bangladesh played in its own liberation. It is essential to recognize that this was fundamentally a war for Bangladesh's independence from Pakistan, and it should be acknowledged as such.

Shashi Tharoor’s Call for Non-Intervention: A Timely Reminder for India Indian politician Shashi Tharoor recently expressed concern over India's tendency to entangle itself in the internal affairs of neighboring countries, like Bangladesh. His remarks highlight an essential diplomatic principle: respecting the sovereignty of other nations. Tharoor emphasized that such actions do not go unnoticed by the global community, as outsiders can clearly discern meddling and its consequences. This perspective is particularly relevant in light of reports and allegations of interference in Bangladesh's domestic matters. While India’s regional influence is undeniable, Tharoor's caution serves as a reminder that lasting relationships are built on mutual respect, not dominance. For India, focusing on collaboration rather than control could not only strengthen regional ties but also enhance its reputation as a responsible global power. #Bangladeshcoup Ex-PM Sheikh Hasina is now in Delhi and UK is playing hardball in granting her asylum. The same UK which felt it was their duty to divide the nation on the basis of its own created communalism. This is a new crisis for India as well ! Apart from being a neighbour to a country on boil, if Hasina stays in India, it may be seen from the lens of Bangladesh as harbouring someone who should meet justice in Bangladesh. Good for ISI ! If India sends her back to Bangladesh, mob justice may prevail. China, a common trouble monger aka shylock seems to be on the back foot here. The Pakistani army may get the reigns of yet another country to manage and we all know how that ends. How will Jaishankar respond? In my opinion, India should play safe and request the PM to move back to Bangladesh or seek asylum in some other safe haven. Perhaps tax havens like Mauritius /Cayman islands where the corrupt money is stored.

They proclaim democracy as the panaccea to all ills. But then these super powers undermine democratically elected governments. Bangladesh government has fallen causing political tremors in the sub-continent. Earlier Sri Lanka faced tumult, Nepal has never been stable and now our eastern neighbour is in dire straits with Army taking charge. Worse, the father of the nation in Bangladesh is under assault, a first sign of the enormity of the challenge the country and the region faces. India must stand doubly alert. Preserve its democratic fabric and unitedly keep away off shore vested interests. PS: How ironic that many fault India for having failed to predict and prevent what happened in Bangladesh today. Hasina served India's security interests unlike others who ruled the country. India, in this case, was up against China and Pakistan, ever ready to mingle to foment trouble for India. US didn't spoil their party. India obviously has to worry a lot. Truth be told, Pakistan has avenged 1971 and every Indian must feel sad, more so Congress, for it was late Indira Gandhi, who gave Bangladesh freedom. That for now looks history!

At this time of rethinking Bangladesh and rebuilding Bangladesh, I would like to share a commentary: 'India-Bangladesh fallout: The urgent need for recalibration and mutual respect'-- the 'Subcontinental Drift' column in Dhaka Tribune, published on August 12. This column is written In the spirit of new beginnings, and one exemplified by a scramble by India to rework its regional relationships. The concept of "independent Bangladesh" remains a very deceptive illusion (or, a very illusive deception). The advisors of this post-revolution interim government continue to shamelessly serve India's interests under various excuses, dismissing the stance of the general public as mere emotion or sentimentality. The desperation of these advisors to cater to India's agenda suggests that no matter how many revolutions or uprisings take place, at some point, those aligned with India's influence will declare solidarity with the revolution. The result is their direct control over the post-revolution government. For those who truly dream of an "independent Bangladesh," all they will face is betrayal. It's time to rethink things: Was Bangladesh ever truly independent? Will it ever be? And if genuine independence is not possible, how can the people of this land survive under Indian dominance?
