A cyber security leader's biggest threat? Some say it's a severe lack of talent. As cyber threats grow in complexity, security leaders face mounting challenges beyond just technology. In Factor's latest CISO Wave of Change report, nearly 30% of cyber security leaders cite skills and talent management as their biggest obstacle, highlighting the need to attract, retain, and upskill security teams. In my keynote at NC-PaCE Cybersecurity Symposium at NC State University last week, I made the business case to use Cyber Risk Quantification to get the executive buy-in and improve the people story/strategy in cybersecurity. Cyber risk is business risk and cybersecurity is national security. Therefore, cybersecurity is a everybody’s business. I want to thank Laura Rodgers and the NC-PaCE community for giving me this opportunity and platform to share my perspective that builds on my experience in various types of cybersecurity organizations and roles as well as from speaking with a wide variety of people on my podcast, Journey into Cybersecurity. This was the most humbling and challenging experience to me as I didn’t want to disappoint the audience which was a collection of students, professionals and public leaders. 😅 But growth comes from stepping outside of your comfort zone. And as I mentioned in my presentation: role models matter. So I took my own advice and gave it my all. 💃🏼 I truly enjoyed this conference as it really gives everyone from all walks of life no matter where they are on their journey the opportunity to learn, connect with each others, find mentors and support others in “breaking” into cyber. Thank you, Adrianne George, SPHR and Emily Ellis, for your support. It meant a lot having you there! 🙏🏻 #LiveLoveMatter #cybersecurity #GRC #CyberRiskManagement #WomenInCybersecurity #CISO #Leadership #TruthToPower #ChallengeTheStatusQuo #PeopleStrategy #JourneyIntoCybersecurity Powered by The Triangle Net LLC References from my presentation will be shared in the comments below… ⬇️
