[NEW EPISODE] National Healthcare Digitalization in Portugal, EHDS and more This episode gives an in-depth insight into healthcare digitalization in Portugal. In 2022, Portugal has allocated €300 million from the EU's recovery funds for digital health transformation, focusing on infrastructure, citizen-centric services, and reducing the burden on healthcare professionals. Cátia Sousa Pinto, MD is Head of Global Digital Health and International Affairs at SPMS, EPE - Serviços Partilhados do Ministério da Saúde - shared services of ministry of health of Portugal, in charge of setting guidlines and developing solutions for the healthcare IT infrastructure. In this episode, Catia talked about healthcare digitalization in Portugal, European Health Data Space (EHDS), patient data and more. Key Points Summary: 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐠𝐚𝐥'𝐬 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: To solve data silo and systems fragmentation, Portugal established a national eHealth agency (SPMS) over a decade ago, to centralize the development of the national digital health infrastructure. 𝐒𝐏𝐌𝐒 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞: SPMS plays a dual role, not only regulating but also developing and maintaining ICT solutions for Portugal's healthcare system. This centralization helps prevent fragmentation and ensures interoperability. 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 (𝐄𝐇𝐃𝐒): EHDS is the EU's regulatory framework for cross-border health data sharing, building on initiatives like MyHealth@EU. The goal is to allow seamless healthcare across Europe, where any EU citizen can access healthcare in other countries as if they were at home. 𝐌𝐲 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡@𝐄𝐔: A foundational, voluntary initiative that enables cross-border exchange of health data like patient summaries and e-prescriptions between some of the EU countries. 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚: Catia emphasized the importance of patients controlling their health data and being able to share it across healthcare providers. This includes e-prescriptions, laboratory results, and, eventually, medical images. 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤: The integration of digital health into national governance and improving interoperability between systems remain ongoing challenges. Katia stressed the importance of moving towards real-time, structured health data to improve future healthcare outcomes. 🎧 🎤 See the episode on Youtube or find it in your podcast player! #digitalhealth #healthcare #Portugal #EHDS #myhealth@eu

You know that quote: Every overnight success is 10 years in the making? Once functional, EHDS might seem like something that came to fruiting overnight. But in reality, as we discussed with Cátia Sousa Pinto, MD, for Faces Of Digital Health Podcast, it's built on numerous EU initiatives in the past. Loved this discussion in which we untagled: - what exactly is EHDS and what is MyHealth@EU - the existing initiative for cross-border healthcare data exchange, - what exactly is a national electronic patient record - many countries claim they have them, but some only have limited data, many store pdfs, some have a mix of structured and unstructured data, - how did Portugal manage to centralize decision making and development of healthcare IT, - and more. Loved it! Tune in: iTunes: https://lnkd.in/dk37jwx5 #digitalhealth #healthcareinnovation #healthcareIT

Title: Bridging the Gap: Public and Private Healthcare Collaboration On June 11, we hosted a pivotal meeting with key voices from both private healthcare providers and public healthcare regulators and providers. The consensus was clear: collaboration between the public and private sectors is essential to create a robust and sustainable healthcare system. Here’s how we can achieve this: 1. Unified Vision:Establish common goals like improving patient outcomes and increasing accessibility. 2. Leverage Strengths:Public systems excel in broad coverage and preventive care, while private providers lead in innovation and efficiency. 3. Data Sharing:Integrate data to enhance diagnosis, treatment, and preventive measures. 4. Joint Investment:Collaborate on funding for advanced medical technologies and telemedicine. 5. Policy Harmonization:Align policies to reduce bureaucratic hurdles and foster innovation. 6. Public-Private Partnerships: Pool resources to tackle infrastructure and rural healthcare challenges. 7. Continuous Improvement: Regular feedback and communication to adapt to changing needs. Our meeting highlighted the potential of collaboration in transforming healthcare. By working together, we can build a more efficient, equitable, and responsive healthcare system. Let’s commit to this collaborative journey for a healthier future. #UHC #medicalai #health #PPP

🚀 Advancing digital health integration by establishing a unified digital health network We thank Dr. med. Conrad Müller, President of the Pro UKBB Foundation for his valuable contribution to the Digital health study: "The adoption of digitalisation by healthcare professionals: Insights and Opportunities". 👉 "We need a digital network structure that connects all the systems and provides a bridge between the different hospitals, clinics, and general practitioners." In the near future we should therefore: - Develop Connected Networks to ensure seamless communication and interoperability between healthcare systems. - Create unified patient records accessible across all healthcare providers. Foster Collaboration by engaging healthcare professionals, clinic leaders, and patients in developing digital solutions. - Maintain continuous feedback loops for improvements. - Enhance Digital Literacy amongst healthcare professionals by providing them with extensive accredited training. By focusing on these steps, we can build an efficient, patient-centred healthcare system that meets current and future needs.
