The popularity of online travel 🎒 platforms is easily explained by a simple fact: platforms make European hotels more successful. 🇪🇺 Europe is the number one travel destination for international tourists. With a large part of demand coming from abroad, European hoteliers need to be visible to travelers around the globe. Online travel platforms offer a risk-free and cost-effective way for hotels to market themselves to international travelers. Platforms invest in technology, multi-language customer service, and global marketing. Hotels are free to use this service as much or as little as they wish. In general, only when a successful booking takes place via an online travel platform do hotels pay a fee. In economic terms, platforms create scale efficiencies, which to a significant extent are passed on to hotel partners. As a result, hotels experience higher occupancy levels and benefit from reduced customer acquisition costs. In fact, for every hotelier who believes platforms have a negative impact, four others agree that partnering with digital platforms leads to lower customer acquisition costs. Three-quarters of European accommodations agree that online travel platforms make their businesses more profitable, contributing significantly to the success of Europe’s entire travel sector. via Statista

There are many who still pursue the concept of a SuperApp or Onestop shopping place. I will posit 2 arguments. First is that we have a SuperApp. It's called the Internet. Almost all of us have SuperApp devices (#Android or #iPhone). But perhaps the missing element from both the general supporters of the concept is that there is a required functionality missing. The #USA Internet emerged from the utility of the world of free consumer communications (aka 800#s). Other markets particularly emerged differently. #China emerged as a result of the world powered by #WeChat and #Alibaba. They created (and still support) the world of a solid base of service that is both communication and payment based. Those do not exist anywhere else in the world. So dearly beloved. Can we now put the idea of the #SuperApp to bed once and for all? But there is one thing that is needed. We really need the verticals (air, accommodation and tours) to get their acts together. Y'all suck royally at consistency which would be a required element of a superApp. Thanks for reading.
For decades, #travel executives have been chasing the idea of building a one-stop shop where customers can book flights, hotels, transfers and even entertainment. We know this is something global online travel agencies like Booking.com and Expedia Group have been working toward, but the creation of a truly end-to-end platform for travelers has still yet to be seen. In reality, would an all-in-one travel platform be the ultimate convenience or just a logistical nightmare?
