❝As Europeans, one thing we have […] is a feeling of fatalism, the feeling of things getting out of control, out of hand, of things just happening to us, whether it is globalisation, or climate change, or populism, or even the war, [...] Leadership has to concentrate on overcoming citizens’ helplessness in the face of fast-moving events.❞ This quote from Leszek Konrad Jażdżewski, Editor-in-Chief of Liberté! and 2022 EYL40 from Poland, reminds us of the importance of leadership in the face of the many problems currently facing European citizens. ❓ Are you, or is someone you know, a leader ready to help Europe face these fast-moving challenges? 🌍 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨.𝗦. 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗻𝘆 𝗕𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 2023 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗮 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝘀 🌍 As a Chevening Awards Scholar currently studying at Aston University, I had the chance to reflect on 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨.𝗦. 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗻𝘆 𝗕𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗻’𝘀 powerful message at the 2023 Mandela Washington Fellowship Summit. In his speech, Secretary Blinken celebrated the collective potential of Young African Leadership Initiative leaders to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges, issues like food security, climate change, and conflict prevention. He spoke passionately about how programs like YALI (Young African Leaders Initiative) enable African innovators, advocates, and entrepreneurs to shape the future of not only their countries but our interconnected world. What truly resonated with me was the U.S. Secretary of State emphasis on partnership and collaboration. He acknowledged that true progress comes not from a “𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮” approach but a “𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮” mindset. His words reminded me of the collaborative spirit fostered within the Chevening Awards community, where leaders from across the globe come together, share ideas, and challenge one another to innovate. As he underscored the importance of ongoing connections and a network that outlives the fellowship itself, I felt a renewed commitment to building similar ties with my peers at Aston University and beyond. Another key message was Secretary Blinken’s reminder to embrace the journey. Change can often feel slow and incremental, he said, but it is through each small step that we realize the distance we’ve traveled and the impact we’ve made. For those of us dedicated to creating meaningful change, it’s an important reminder to keep going even when the results aren’t immediate. The world needs passionate, driven leaders who can bridge divides, spark innovation, and cultivate resilience. As Secretary Blinken urged the Fellows to stay committed and carry forward this mission, I felt a powerful call to action and a responsibility to use my experience to foster the kind of change I want to see. Thank you, Secretary Blinken. Together, let’s work toward a future that’s stable, prosperous, and inclusive. #MandelaWashingtonFellowship #Chevening #YoungLeaders #GlobalCollaboration #Innovation #Leadership

On Tuesday, 3 December, we successfully concluded the ASEFYLS Capacity Buildings 2024! Over the past 5 months, 78 young leaders from 50 countries in Asia and Europe have explored the topic of ‘Leadership in Society 5.0’, engaging in meaningful discussions and activities. From the online Knowledge Building Phase with theoretical learnings; to hands-on learning during the In-Person Trainings in Beijing & Hangzhou, China, and Budapest, Hungary; and finally to bringing back their learnings to their communities to organise their own Multiplier Activities, the participants have been on an important learning journey. Through their participation, they have explored themes of self, team, and societal leadership, shared their perspectives, and grown together as they forged lasting connections with each other. We want to express our thanks to the Council of Europe’s Youth Department and the All-China Youth Federation (ACYF) for their partnership in this project whose collaboration was essential to the success of this programme. We also extend our gratitude to the European Union, the People’s Republic of China, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark for their financial support. Finally, a heartfelt thank you to our participants for their contributions and dedication through these past months. With your engagement, we have managed to reach 1000+ youth across Asia and Europe, further developing youth leadership skills and spreading knowledge of Society 5.0. #UnitedLatinas UNITED LATINAS Europe Although I find myself a lone wolf in this chapter I wanted to go ahead and share some statistics for potential growth. According to the World Migration Report from the International Organization for Migration of the UN, the United States has remained a consistent and most popular destination for Latinos since 1970. However, in recent years Europe and Asia have experienced a bigger influx of immigrants from Latin America, with Germany being the second biggest migrant destination, with Spain being number one. There are 24 official languages in Europe however Spanish is only spoken in Spain. Although Latin migrants have increased in France, Portugal, and Italy as well. According to the 2024 Edition of Demography of Europe, there are 5% more women than men. As of 2022 there were 7.0 million people who immigrated to Europe. So if you are a Latina living in Europe, join our community! “We empower Latinas through community and collaboration, speaking opportunities, entrepreneurship, and leadership development and training. By joining us, you will have the opportunity to be impacted by and impact other strong Latina leaders.” Go to: UNITED LATINAS on LinkedIn Or Go to: Website https://UnitedLatinas.com Or Download the app and make sure to join the Europe Chapter. Let’s unit and grow together!!!
