COLD WEATHER PLAN. As we scrape our cars this morning due to the dramatic change of weather. Please take time to consider is your Plant/Workplace prepared for cold weather? 💡It is very worthwhile to create a cold weather plan to identify areas of risk and create countermeasures. 💡Organise who is doing what and when, so it doesn't get forgotten or that everyone thinks someone else is doing it. 💡Make sure you have a plentiful stock of grit and that there is a plan to grit walkways, stairways and traffic routes around site. Consider how this can be achieved to suit your operating hours. 💡 It's dark in the mornings now, so combining this with slippery conditions presents a major hazard. Make sure walkways are well lit for night workers and workers who start the day early! 💡Are there areas that are particularly prone to freezing? Can these areas/routes be avoided? 💡What are the temperatures your workforce operate in? If it's a large area that's impossible to heat, can you provide smaller break out areas? Make sure warm drinks are readily available! 💡Undertake a survey of radiators and heaters to establish that they are in working order. Repair if necessary, using qualified professionals. 💡Be aware if your heating methods are inadequate, it will drive behaviour toward people bringing their own heating methods to work. This is risky in terms of controlling electrical integrity and fire risks! 💡Warm clothing! Is what you provide adequate? Also, can people be easily seen if they are in dark or low-lit areas? Hi vis clothing may be appropriate. 💡Some people spend a long time driving as part of their job or carrying out their duties. Take time to update your people on winter driving preparedness. Fluid checks, tyres, fuel, speed, safe distances, lights, warm clothes, drinks and a blanket etc. 💡Plants that use water for industrial processes- what is the risk of frozen pipes? Are they lagged? Trace heating? If this isn't cost effective, what is the plan if frozen? These are the types of occasions where Maintenance people can become at risk when trying to do non-standard or controlled activities trying to thaw such things! A little forward planning reduces risk hugely and helps keep your people safe. If you haven't got a cold weather plan, it's never too late. Take control! #wintersafety

Are you ready to give your home a seasonal upgrade? 🏠🍂 🌀💡 Save energy by flipping a switch! In the cold months, set your ceiling fan to spin clockwise to push warm air down. In hot months, switch it to counterclockwise for a cool breeze. This easy trick helps keep your home comfy all year! 🔥🏠 As it gets colder, make sure your chimney is ready for cozy fires. A professional cleaning and inspection will help keep it safe and working well, so you can enjoy those warm fires without worry. ❄️🏡 Take care of your air conditioner when you’re not using it.
