🚉🛫 India's first centrally air-conditioned railway station, the Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT) in Bengaluru, was envisioned to be a game-changer and modernize the railways. However, despite South Western Railways' commendable effort over six years and 314 crores, SMVT falls short on several fronts. At first glance, it exudes the grandeur of an airport, but upon closer inspection, its design flaws become apparent. From accessibility challenges to discomfort in waiting areas and navigational confusion, SMVT disappoints in delivering a seamless experience. In our latest video, we delve into the phenomenon of 'Over-engineering & under-designing', prevalent in today's urban construction landscape. We argue that while prioritizing vehicular infrastructure, we've inadvertently sidelined the needs of pedestrians and commuters. The result? Incomplete, wasteful spaces that inconvenience rather than enhance urban life. Join us in exploring this crucial discussion and advocating for a shift towards human-centric design principles. Let's build spaces that prioritize people's needs and foster a more inclusive, sustainable future.
