Bingo...it may have taken us years to get here, but the fact is : we're here... This isn't so much news as it is the re-discovery of lost wisdom... The way to make your fantasy (being defined as characters that utilize magic versus science or technology to do what they do; if Superman is comics-meet-science-fiction, and Batman is comics-meet-crime-drama; then Wonder Woman (and similar characters like Thor) are comics-meet-mythology-and-magic)) characters work is to treat them like the biggest piece of fantasy pop culture familiarity : Role-Playing Games... Complete with things like upgradable armors, magical weapons, mythological animals; the whole thing (because usually in the Role-Playing Games; the person wielding and connected to all these bizarre things is usually a sorcerer, wizard, mage; etc ((which really is just another way to equating them to the archetype : children of a god character (or magical entity / force of the universe). And the fact that Wonder Woman is raised by a witch, raised in hell, carries an obscenely large sword, and has a barbed lasso are just exciting enough to keep turning the page.
