I believe that the heart of any training lies with the attendee. I can introduce and teach any model, but true learning only happens when the attendee is willing and ready to grow. Over the years, I’ve done it all, facilitation needs analysis, coaching, online and in-person delivery. I can guide, inspire, and challenge, but here’s the truth: while I control the structure, content, flow, and environment for learning, I can’t force growth. If someone shows up with the wrong mindset, thinking they’re doing me a favour by being there or believing they already know it all, meaningful learning won’t happen. Growth begins with an open mind and a readiness to learn. And you might wonder why am I sharing this. I am sharing it because I’ve seen firsthand how a growth mindset changes everything. It transforms a training session from a tick-the-box exercise into a launchpad for real, impactful change. And because I believe this conversation matters, it’s about everyone involved in learning embracing the idea that growth is a two-way street. Thoughts? #LearningAndDevelopment
YOu are 100% spot on Evan! A positive and open-minded approach is essential for effective learning in any capacity from a course to coaching sessions. I believe we are all learning until the day we die. Actually I had that discussion with a client yesterday. I love clients who have that mindset too. 😀
100% true Any change is possible when a person willing to change and make efforts, including challenges and routine. A coach just shows the way and direction.
Good insight Evan. I find the same in my practice. The outcome and implementation of the learnings lie with the attendee or client (in my practice) too. I always say that my main job is to sprinkle doubt and nurture hope that change is possible.
As my nanny would say, "There's none so deaf as won't hear." Teaching and training effectively requires active engagement from the students/trainees. The trick is to get that engagement early on.
A tick box approach doesn’t work but the deep real change happens when you take a more dynamic perspective
Embracing the learning mindset is the key point of learning. Now online training is more approachable. Are you interested in doing online training or in person as online is getting more popular these days?
Love how you see the one receiving it as an integral part of the training. They bring something too, their receptive attitude, and therefore as responsible too.
I couldn’t agree more—growth truly starts with the right mindset. When attendees are open and ready to learn, it’s amazing how much impact the training can have, turning it into a catalyst for real change. Evan Tzivanakis
Evan Tzivanakis this is so important. Being willing to receive is so important in order for us to learn and grow
