I have read over 3,000+ #TransitioningTeacher and #EdTech #Resumes.... ...and I want to offer some pointers to anyone who is #ResumeWriting right now to get out of teaching during this recession: ✅ You ARE the ROLE your SKILLS are: I have never seen so many talented individuals be afraid of accidentally lying on a resume; when in reality they do the tasks every day! "I have never actually taught adults, only 500+ kids a year, can I say I can train people?" - YES YOU CAN! Do you think 30 screaming kids with helicopter parents are EASIER than training adults?! Stop having #impostersyndrome and shooting yourself in the foot every chance you get! If you have Professional Development and skills in roles; then BE PROUD TO SHOW AND SAY IT. As someone who has been in #InstructionalDesigner for years, teaching is harder. Stop getting in your own way and be proud to post your experience! ✅ Quantify and use numbers MORE: I am not interested in someone saying something that is not grounded in numbers. I want to know the SCOPE of your skills, compare the 2 points below: a. "Designed history, science, and math content to line up with state standards (95% of you). b. "Designed and Implemented data-driven assessments, differentiated instruction, and real-world projects for over 25+ students which raised final test grades by 50%." Do you see the difference? I made it CLEAR to a #Recruiter I do not just read standards and then teach them, you do DATA, you do ASSESSMENTS, you can implement DIFFERENT SOLUTIONS, and you got RESULTS. ✅ #CoverLetter is the place for fun stuff, Resume is all business: I would LOVE to know your volunteer experience, hobbies, and all that stuff; but not on your resume. That is what you use a cover letter for, convey YOURSELF and push your resume over the TOP with cover letters. Keep your resume CONCISE, ROLE SPECIFIC, and on TOPIC. Recruiters do not want to see your hobbies and fraternity experience off the bat; let them see your success in your prior roles. THEN when they read the cover letter, they can make those connections. "Oh they have experience in project management, and they are a successful camp counselor and volunteer for Relay for Life; I like that". Keep that resume CLEAN and to the POINT There is no greater group of eclectic and talented people than #Teachers, it is time you STOPPED having imposter syndrome. I know the administration wants you to be afraid of leaving, and saying the grass is not greener, or you're not good enough to teach, so you have to stay. YOU are worth it, and YOU are good enough, show it, baby. PSA for transitioning teachers from Evan on your resume rewrite - you are what your skills are so strategically present yourself as an expert with those skills.
Instructional Design Manager and Content Creator | I help Teachers get out of teaching and into tech | I mentor aspiring professionals to get into Learning and Development, and I create learning materials and videos.
I have read over 1,500+ #TransitioningTeacher and #EdTech #Resumes.... ✅ Remember; you are NO LONGER a teacher on your resume. You are not a TEACHER who wants to transition; YOU. ARE. WHAT. YOUR. SKILLS. ARE. I don’t know what it is about my teachers; I love y’all - but HAVE CONFIDENCE! If your skill set, program knowledge, and job title is what YOU CAN DO; you can put that as your desired career title. You’re no longer a ‘teacher trying to be…’ in your opening summary; YOU ARE WHAT YOU APPLY FOR’. Own it. Let it rip. Stop thinking a recruiter is going to google your name or something; you ARE THE SKILLS YOU HAVE. (I am not saying lie, I am saying you have to strategically present yourself as an expert - which you are - and avoid #impostersyndrome) ✅ #softskills go on cover letter. #hardskills go on resume. Use your soft skills to show EMOTIONAL CONNECTION to the company you apply for. I’m not saying you re write it for all jobs; but make some statements like ‘your company seems to standout because you value enriching your employees and I’m a life long learner myself’ - instead of putting ‘lifelong learner’ as a skill. Everyone is a life king learner - what everyone is not is someone with your hard skills. Articulate360, Adobe, Canvas, LMS, or ACTUAL things you can do go on a resume and they need to be the focus. ✅ The average #recruiter will spend 6 seconds to decide ‘Am I going to read more’ and your 3 pages is not helping that. You’re a teacher right; do you like sitting through 3 hour lectures and long meetings? Nooooooo you don’t. Neither do recruiters lol. Embrace less is more. GIVE. ME. WHAT. IS. THE. BEST. OF. YOU. 13-15 solid bullet points for your experience, and then you can expand on this in an interview. I want to know why you’re the best and what problems you’ll solve; 35 bullet points of every little task you does won’t do that at face value - but 12 SOLID problems you fixed with some data to support it is way more efficient. I hope this helps front when view of someone who seen a lot of these and is in the field. I’ll give individual feedback to those who have asked - but please share to help others and feel free to connect with me to learn more! 4. Education Teaching and Training: Educators can use icons to represent different teaching methodologies or technologies used in the classroom, adding a modern touch to their resumes. 5. Startups and Innovative Companies Entrepreneurial Roles: Startups often appreciate creativity and innovation. Using icons can reflect a candidate's forward-thinking approach and adaptability. Considerations for Using Icons While certain industries benefit from icons, it's important to consider the following: Traditional Industries: In conservative fields like law, finance, or healthcare, a highly visual resume with many icons may be viewed as unprofessional. It's generally advisable to keep resumes in these sectors more traditional and straightforward. ATS Compatibility: Ensure that any icons used do not interfere with the readability of your resume by Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). Simple contact icons (like phone or email) are safer choices. Conclusion In summary, incorporating icons into your resume can be highly effective in creative, tech-focused, media-related, educational, and startup environments. However, it's crucial to assess the appropriateness of this approach based on the industry norms and the specific job you are targeting. When used thoughtfully, icons can enhance your resume's visual appeal while effectively communicating your qualifications. #resumewriting #resumewriters #resumewritingservices #resumebuilder #jobsearch, #career #jobopportunities #ITJobs, #Cybersecurity or #TechTrends #leadership, #training, #success #content, #marketing, #socialmedia #resumewriting #resumewriters #resumewritingservices #resumebuilder #jobsearch, #career #jobopportunities #ITJobs, #Cybersecurity or #TechTrends #leadership, #training, #success #content, #marketing, #socialmedia #resumetips #resumewriter #resumeservices #resumebuilding #resumetemplate #resumemakeover #resumeexpert#resume keywords #resume tips #resume examples #resume builder #resume template #resume cover letter #resume objective #resume skills #resumewriting #resumewriters #resumewritingservices #resumebuilder #jobsearch #career #jobopportunities #ITJobs #Cybersecurity #TechTrends #leadership #training #success #content #marketing #socialmedia #resumetips #resumeservices #resumebuilding #resumetemplate #resumemakeover #resumeexpert #resumekeywords #resumeexamples #resumecoverletter #resumeobjective #resumeskills #ResumeRevamp, #CareerBoost, #JobSearchStrategies, #ProfessionalProfile, #ResumeCrafting, #CareerEnhancement, #JobApplicationTips, #ResumeOptimization, #CareerStorytelling, #JobSuccess, #ResumeModernization, #SkillsShowcase, #ProfessionalBranding, #ResumeRefresh, #JobWinningResumes , #CareerAdvancement, #ResumeTailoring, #ProfileBuilding, #EmployabilityBoost, #ResumeImpact, #CareerProgression, #ApplicationSuccess, #ResumePerfection, #JobSearchHacks, #PersonalBrandBuilding
