Given the high levels of sexual abuse against children in South Africa, it is important both children and adults are equipped with information necessary to support a child who has experienced sexual abuse. Lawyers against Abuse, SECTION27 and the Centre for Applied Legal Studies (CALS) [@University of the Witwatersrand] created a handbook designed to empower children, parents, schools and communities to effectively respond to sexual abuse against children. Using child-friendly characters and language, this handbook helps the reader understand various forms of sexual abuse, how to report a case at the police station, what to expect at the hospital and throughout a court process, how to handle abuse that takes place in the school environment and much more. We are witnessing daily the impact of sexual violence and sexual exploitation from which recovery is lifelong. We need to do more to prevent sexual exploitation and protect women and girls from sexual violence.
